paross4 Posted September 6, 2019 #1 Share Posted September 6, 2019 Just got word from Southwest Airlines that our flight home from Fort Lauderdale has been moved from 13:45 to 18:00 on December 4th. Changing flights or flying home a different day is not an option for us, thus we have some time to kill. Any suggestions on what to do while killing time in Fort Lauderdale for a few hours? Our current plan is to Uber/Lyft from the port to the airport and grab a rental car for the day. (so we don't have to hang around the airport or schlep around town dragging our suitcases) This assumes that an Uber/Lyft/taxi would take us to the arrivals area to get the car. We could grab a rental closer to the port, but they add $50 to drop it off at a different location (i. e. the airport). Thanks
Clarea Posted September 6, 2019 #2 Share Posted September 6, 2019 There are rental car companies that service the cruise terminals, no need for an Uber: Hertz from Crown Plaza Hotel Avis/Budget/Payless at 2520 Miami Rd. Sixt further up 17th. Thrifty/Dollar just out Western port exit.

JohninDC Posted September 6, 2019 #6 Share Posted September 6, 2019 You can store your bags at FLL for a fee, then you don't need a rental car. Ride the water taxi, boozy brunch somewhere on Las Olas, or explore hotels/resorts offering day passes to their spa/pool/beach facilities at www.resortpass.com

Uber to the airport. Drop your bags off with the storage companies there. Then Uber over to Las Olas and explore a bit. Hop on the water taxi. Maybe do the south loop and get off at 5' O Clock Somewhere (Margaritaville) for drinks and lunch (or Le Tub next door, famous burger), walk the broadwalk until ready to head to the airport. Then just Uber from wherever you are back to the airport.

shellunderwater Posted September 6, 2019 #10 Share Posted September 6, 2019 Try Resortpass.com. You can buy day passes to various facilities near many cities, including Fort Lauderdale and Miami. This week, when waiting until at 7pm flight, we took a taxi to the car pick up at the airport and had a Camaro convertible for the day for about $53 plus gas. It only used about 5 gallons and we put some miles on it, riding down to South Beach with the top down.

kevingastreich Posted September 7, 2019 #12 Share Posted September 7, 2019 We booked a 4 hour tour that picks you up at the ship and takes you all over plus a boat ride and then drops you off at the airport. About $56.00 pp from the cruise line.

We Ubered from the port to The Atlantic Hotel, and spent the day there.
Rare cruiselvr04 Posted September 8, 2019 #14 Share Posted September 8, 2019 Hotels by day. Day use.com we are using the latter this time. We have a room booked from 10 to 4 for $99. We plan to use the pool and then clean up before heading to the airport. We’ve rented a car before and gone to the beach and we’ve also used a hotel before. If we book a later flight we just figure the cost is one more “port” day and enjoy it rather then being miserable sitting at the airport all day.
