No Excursions Available

Going on a Med cruise in the Spring on the Riviera. I looked on the first day excursions were available to book.  I can pick an excursion for all the ports, except for Malta.  Every Malta excursion listed says: This excursion is closed.  Thought this was odd that there are no excursions available.

From past experiences, does anyone have an idea what this means?  Could it be that we may not be stopping in Malta?  Thanks!

My advice, which no one asked for, admittedly, is to forget the Oceania excursions and see if you can schedule the Hypogeum.  https://booking.heritagemalta.org/

Absolutely breathtaking!

Absolutely! A gem. You must book the Hypogeum.

Easy to get to by public bus or by taxi.

Nearby, you can also visit Tarxien temple - https://www.maltauncovered.com/malta-history/megalithic-temples/tarxien/

Valletta and Malta itself is easy to visit on your own.

In Valletta, the newly restored co-cathedral is fabulous -

I agree about the Hypogeum.  And it's easy to book online.  Just get a cab to take you there.  In our case another couple had booked a private tour and when we realized we'd independently booked the Hypogeum at the same time they invited us to join them.  So the car took us there, then transferred us to the Mdina for a visit on our own.  Returned to the port area for the rest of the afternoon and walked back to the ship.

I see Frances beat me to it!

On my recent O cruise, there was one port (Warnemunde-Berlin) that didn't list any excursions.  The other ports' excursions were listed well in advance. I called O about it and they didn't offer an explanation but they did send me an email with a PDF attachment that listed all of that port's excursions.  Excursions for that port had to be booked over the phone instead of online. I don't know how this differs from Excursions Closed but I would call them about it.

Thanks sunlover.  I think I will call.  All the excursions are listed with the various prices, so I thought it was odd that when you tried to book any excursion they all said the excursion was closed.  All the other port excursions are listed with prices and can be booked with no problem.

Your post comes across as nasty; it's not helpful.   Everyone has different reasons to book their excursions through a cruise line, DIY or  mixture of both.

In your always humble opinion, of course.

One more vote for visiting the Hypogeum. fascinating underground necropolis dating back over 3000-4000 years.

https://booking.heritagemalta.org/

Only 12 people are accepted per tour 3x daily so get your tickets asap if you want to see it. They sell out months before your cruise.

Also Hagar Qim is a huge spectacular prehistoric temple overlooking the Mediterranean.

Mdina https://www.visitmalta.com/en/mdina-and-rabat

There is so much to see. Hire a car to share with someone on your roll call to make the most of your day.

This is who we used when we visited. Designed our own tour and got by with just the driver giving us personal commentary and didn't use the guide. They are well rated on TA.
