Drink Package Problems

Non-alcoholic drinks are not included in the 15 drink total are they?  If they are, that could throw off your daily count.

they do not count. only alcoholic drinks count

So I guess just make sure you know the Cheers policy, and maybe have a copy of it with you to reference?  Or at least a digital copy on your phone.

Lol, do you think the discrepancy between 14 and 15 could be on your end after 15 drinks?  I very much doubt carrying around the cheers policy will help.

One thing I have noticed is that when I check my folio account, both mine and my husbands drinks/charges show up (I book the cruise, I am the first name on the booking, and I set it up using a credit card in my name). When we check HIS folio, only his charges/drinks show up.

Haha!  I'm positive 😉  The advantage to Cheers is being able to try something new.  And if you don't like it, you dump it and get something else.  The customer service rep at Carnival was the one who said to refer to the policy.

This has happened to us.  The waiter in the MDR would charge my husbands card for myself and brothers drinks every night because we were having the same number and he would leaver there way up.  We finally figured that out on about the 5th night!  Hubby wasn't very happy!

I'm pretty sure on our first day we were charged for more than we had but by the third day it seemed to clear up on my account and reflect the accurate number.

 

on our last sea day the bartender told my DH he was 10. DH was in disbelief. I can ASSURE you he was at 10........

On the conquest, summer 2018, it looked like he counted coffees from the 
coffee bar in our 15 drinks. We will check on the next cruise in February 2020

Unless you put a shot in them, I cannot conceive how they could/would do that.  Would love to see the sign sail bill.

I read a post once last year about a woman's husband who was cut off because somehow Cheers was counting his non-alcoholic drinks against his 15 drink limit... he went to Guest Services the next day and they weren't very helpful. I don't recall the final outcome of the issue but he was very clear that he didn't drink anything alcoholic after a certain time in the evening, yet by midnight they told him he was cut off. Not sure what went wrong there.

Still scratching my head how that could possibly happen.  It shows the drink, what it was and time.  I am sure a non alcoholic would not count against the total.

Have seen people report it on here happening on carnival and I’ve seen it happen on other lines. I don’t know how much discretion a bartender has to comp drinks but charging it to an account that has ‘free drinks’ would certainly be an easy way to keep their inventory right. I could see that easily happening on lines that dont have a max on their drink package or on carnival if they notice people who don’t come close to the 15 drink max.

While I still strongly doubt the scenarios you lay out, even if it could happen, other than reaching the max limit why would someone care?  Having receipts proves nothing.

huh. I agreed that having receipts proves nothing. And that’s exactly the point, no one has a reason to care unless they are bumping up against the max

 

I agree the scenario seems odd. But the facts exist that some people with cheers find drinks charged to them that they did not consume. And some people without cheers who tip will get the occasional free drink. This could be accidental. Or 2 plus 2 could equal 4.

In my opinion, these threads actually provide the most compelling argument in favor of Carnival going to all you can drink vs 15 drinks. 

 

As an infrequent cheers participant, I’d be livid if I were cut off short of 15 drinks due to an error due to the cost of the package and due to the difficulty and hassle of disputing it late at night when I was having a good time. It’s really nice on the other lines to not have to worry about stuff like that. 

 

Generally we just get drinks on us in the casino so it’s not a problem but on cruises with people who don’t gamble, we pretty much max out every day. We start right after the gym in the morning and stay up late so you don’t have to be the drunkest person on the ship to hit 15.

Thank you for this information. I don't drink alcohol-my preferred drink is not available-but I appreciate knowing about where to look for the number. 

 

I will be getting the Bottomless Bubbles package, much easier for me. Already carefully budgeting for On Board purchases, making sure money is put into On Board Credit.

 

Any useful tips I find in the board, I note down for my own use. I've learned HEAPS of insider tricks and shortcuts, most of which I would never have thought of myself!

why have other lines made it work? I like Carnival more than Royal but I have to say Royal doesn't seem to sweat the small stuff about people sharing or overindulging while using their package like Carnival does. Maybe you have more insider knowledge about the % of people buying the packages on the different lines so maybe that has something to do with it. 

 

I truly don't care if people get drunk and have a good time as long as they aren't hurting anyone or putting themselves in serious danger. That said, we see 3 really intoxicated people on Carnival for every one on Royal. Not saying that is a good or bad thing but the 15 drink limit doesn't do its job from that perspective.

They tested removing it and were not pleased with the results.  I was not making an issue to discuss but rather just stating what I believe to be fact.
