39august Posted December 21, 2019 #26 Share Posted December 21, 2019 I may give the Champagne dinner a try on another cruise I saw it advertised on our Silly cruise last week. Have never been interested in Chef's Table.
Rare chemmo Posted December 21, 2019 #27 Share Posted December 21, 2019 We have done a couple of chef’s tables...To me it is the company that makes it really enjoyable or not worth the outlay. We did attend one with a ‘know it all’ who contradicted the sommelier, interrupted every conversation with ‘in my experience’ or ‘I always’. His wife kept asking for extra wine clearly after having drank plenty. Not the best evening, if we did it again I think we would try to put our own group together. goofysmom99 Posted December 21, 2019 #28 Share Posted December 21, 2019 (edited) Many of my cruises will/may have $500-900 of nonrefundable OBC. There is absolutely nothing I want to buy anymore and you can't give any of it to crewmembers except for your butler. Not really much of a spa person (max once/twice per cruise) so the chef's table was a good way to blow some OBC. I use any remaining credit in the casino on the last night and hope to be lucky enough to cash out; however, I find I enjoy nice meals & wine more than gambling. We have often used OBC for the Chef's Dinner and/or The Chef's Market Discovery. 😋
Rare NMTraveller Posted December 21, 2019 #30 Share Posted December 21, 2019 Do they have vegetarian substitutions or is the menu truly fixed?
goofysmom99 Posted December 21, 2019 #31 Share Posted December 21, 2019 I think the menu is more or less fixed. One lady in our group wouldn't/couldn't eat seafood so they didn't serve her anything during the sea bass course. The Murano maitre d' had shown me the menu when I made my reservation with him. I have celiac and saw that I'd be OK except for dessert which I was just planning to skip. I told him I was gluten free but didn't ask for anything. If more than one course had been involved, I wasn't going to make the reservation. I don't know about vegetarian but they surprised me with a Grand Marnier souffle rather than the dessert on the menu (made me cry because the last time I'd had it was with my DH on our last cruise together). All the other courses were already gluten free to begin with though.

Today the group photo and menu copies were delivered to my stateroom. But no cookbook. I thought the $139 included the cookbook as well. Any idea who to ask? Update: As I was booked in CC this trip, I contacted the CC Concierge. Explained I received the group photo and menu, but not the cookbook. She called what she described the “Head Maitre’d” and his reply was that if I had booked the Chef Table pre-cruise that the cookbook was included. If booked on board, cookbook not included. When I told her the price pre-cruise and onboard was the same - $139, she called the guy back and he said he’d have one delivered to my stateroom, which he did. What’s other’s experiences, cookbook or no cookbook?????

On Carnival at the chefs table, I also don’t eat seafood so they usually prepare the same dish with a different food such as chicken instead of fish
