chloebell1 Posted December 11, 2019 #1 Share Posted December 11, 2019 Taking our first cruise on Norwegian next month. We have cruised once on both carnival and royal Caribbean. Someone told me Norwegian calls it Night Out. What night of the cruise is it, and do many people dress up?
YVRBassElectric Posted December 11, 2019 #2 Share Posted December 11, 2019 Officially it's dress up or not, depends on sailing and itinerary on 18 cruises I've seen 2 tuxes, shorts and t shirts are more common that ties. Women wear everything from shorts to long dresses and all are acceptable
smplybcause Posted December 11, 2019 #3 Share Posted December 11, 2019 It's usually the first sea day. Like YVR says most don't dress up. You'll see some go all out, but a larger portion are just dressier vs full formal.
FLAHAM Posted December 11, 2019 #4 Share Posted December 11, 2019 In my experience, many (but not all) of those who do dress up have photography appointments prior to or after dinner.
Sauer-kraut Posted December 11, 2019 #5 Share Posted December 11, 2019 Freestyle ... dress up when you want to, not when the cruise line tells you. 😄
Rare Liljo22 Posted December 11, 2019 #6 Share Posted December 11, 2019 (edited) Its usually the first sea day. Some people will get dressed up but most will not since its not required. On our last NCL cruise, we were dressed nice but not in formal dresses and suits. The family next to us went full out. Guys in tuxes and girls in formal dresses. tef43 Posted December 11, 2019 #7 Share Posted December 11, 2019 Generally speaking, it's ignored. I would guess maybe 10% would "dress up."

Beer Belly Posted December 12, 2019 #10 Share Posted December 12, 2019 My understanding is that the Main Dining Room has a dress code, casual.
marktwothousand Posted December 12, 2019 #11 Share Posted December 12, 2019 As long as you don’t wear a pair of plastic thongs to the restaurants on Night Out, you will be fine to get in anywhere that night.

The dress code for the MDR can vary depending on which MDR it is and what ship it is on. It's best to check the dailies for dress requirements.

Well, it depends on which cruise ship they are going on. Last month on the Breakaway we were turned away in the MDR for wearing shorts.

Dressed up is dockers and a polo shirt for gents. All restaurants for all meals allow shorts except Le Bistro and one other restaurant which require long pants (dockers or jeans) Edited December 12, 2019 by BirdTravels

It has happened twice now to us while wearing shorts on both the Gem and Breakaway.

I do know that while we were on the Escape, the Manhattan Room did have a dress code of some sort, no shorts or T-Shirts I believe.
