Rare OzKiwiJJ Posted December 15, 2019 #6 Share Posted December 15, 2019 You might be able to see the ships coming up the channel after just leaving port and then crossing to the other side of the harbour before finally passing the camera at close range. Rare MicCanberra Posted February 4, 2020 #10 Share Posted February 4, 2020 WOW, as long as it doesn't harm or stress the birds it is a good thing.
Janet987 Posted February 4, 2020 #11 Share Posted February 4, 2020 The Royal Cam's Facebook page and Twitter account, linked here, https://www.doc.govt.nz/royalcam. Post clips of the more happening events...recent hatching, placement of hatched chick back into the nest, daily weighing of chick, etc. they have posted ships as well. Watching live a few days ago about 7:40am local time, Saw a Viking ship enter port. Assume ships stay off shore until close to docking time to save fees? Watching the live cam is addictive. Thanks to the NZ conservation dept for providing.

Docker123 Posted February 5, 2020 #17 Share Posted February 5, 2020 I was watching when a researcher came and checked on the chick and state of the nest. Demonstrated how really big those birds are compared to a human.

The ships have to wait for a harbour pilot to board them before entering the harbour, they can't just go in when it suits them.
