I second Travel Hub. We did an overnight shore excursion tour with them (Bangkok and Ayutthaya) and were pleased. We decided on a privately escorted small group (2 couples, 4 people total) and the price was well worth it. I booked the hotel early and managed to get a very nice 5 star hotel for US$135 a night, breakfast included. We had a driver and tour guide; they seemed to know how to avoid the traffic. In the evening we ventured out by ourselves using the Bangkok Skytrain; it was extremely crowded and unfortunately we had a poor experience. Here are a few photos from our adventure in Asia [link].

Went on a private tour with BKK, absolutely wonderful, and arranged overnight accommodation. There were seven in our party and X’s charges compared to going independently were eye watering.

Generally no bathrooms, but they made a stop on the outskirts of Bangkok on the way out, and a similar stop about 2 hours after leaving Bangkok on the way back.

Our cruise on Millie had an overnight in BK and one in Halong Bay. We took a transfer to BK and stayed there overnight (Chatrium Riverside hotel).

Halong Bay -- the ship docked at noon, too late for the morning tours to Halong Bay. We spent the early afternoon at the Fish Market in Halong Bay city, and took a long tour of Halong Bay (9AM-4PM) on the second day.

Others took a transfer to Hanoi and also spent the night there.

Our cruise on Eclipse Nov 10  has a double overnight (3 days 2 night) in Bangkok and 1 day Ko Samui, Thiland.   Not yet sure if we will do a two night hotel stay or just one night.

Beautiful photos of your adventure in Asia.   The Sivatel Bangkok looks like a beautiful hotel.   How was the location?

 

Would be interested to understand your poor experience on the Skytrain.    Hopefully your information will help us avoid a similar situation.

The Sivatel is conveniently located two blocks away from the Phloen Chit subway station. We took the subway from Phloen Chit to Asok station, where we switched to the MRT BlueLine Sukhumvit station. Unaware of how congested public transit is in Bangkok, we took it during rush hour. The stations and trains were very crowded, and lines were extremely long to purchase tickets and board the trains. Hope this helps.

If you haven't been to Bangkok, I too strongly recommend a private tour that drops you at a hotel for an overnight stay....you really do want to see Bangkok at night....the Patpong night market and the "sites and recreational activities" abutting that market make for an exciting evening.... 🙂 🙂 

 

For those that don't want to venture into Bangkok the Damnoen Saduak Tiger Zoo is a unique experience.

If we take this or a similar cruise we want to see a family friend who lives in Malaysia.  We thought to meet them in either Singapore or Bangkok.  Maybe Bangkok so we don't need to extend our stay in Singapore.  I could see doing a private tour in Bangkok.  It would be easy to add our friend.

The logistics would be way easier in Singapore, and a lot of these cruises arrive there the day before departure or have an overnight after embarkation.

Thanks much for your explanation.    Fully understand and have gotten stuck in Rush Hour myself many times.    I was afraid you may have been mugged or something.
