If NCL cancel the cruise...?

Hi,

(TLDR: If a cruise is cancelled, will cash refunds be available?)

The way things are going currently with the virus I'm half expecting our cruise (end of April) out of Miami (Pearl) to be cancelled.

I know if I cancel it we get FCC but if the cruise is cancelled would we be able to get a cash (credit card) refund?

We're currently 2/3rds of the way through some long term travel and the cruise is the end of our journey before returning to the UK and we won't have the desire / ability to take another cruise for a few years so FCC of limited interest.

What do you think?

Based on the Asian cruises if THEY cancel then you get your money back.  If you cancel you get FCC.  We are still going back and forth on ours as well especially since Seattle has already cancelled the first port calls.  Just a waiting game at this point

I spoke to my travel agent today and she said that while we should get a refund if the cruise line cancels, the upheaval in the industry is so unprecedented right now that nothing is certain. If you paid on your credit card, you should be prepared to go through them to get a refund if the cruise line balks.

What if we cancel and rebook and the cruise we choose (same cabin category) is cheaper than what we paid?  Do they give an onboard credit?

At the moment all prices have shot up in price

https://www.ncl.com/why-cruise-norwegian/book-with-confidence

"If the cruise fare for the new booking exceeds the FCC’s value, guests will be responsible for the difference. Alternatively, if the new cruise fare is lower than the FCC’s value, a new FCC will be issued for the remaining balance."

Based on what President Trump just said about no travel between Europe and USA, you may want to contact the airline you were using to return home.  Although he said the UK is exempted from this order, airlines may limit flights.

Actually, I am looking at a cruise, same itinerary for September that is almost $500 less. Yes, I know that's hurricane season. We are seasoned cruisers and 99% of our cruises have been in Sept and Oct.

I have a cruise on the transatlantic on the Epic April 18th, I have decided to cancel but haven't yet as I was holding out to see if the situation changes. I also considered whether or not NCL would cancel the cruise themselves which may seem likely now as I'm sure a refund would have to be given instead of FCC. Also  my flight to Miami is with Norwegian Air so may be cancelled anyway.

Wayne,

Carol & I are in the same position as you & on the same transatlantic trip, we are holding out for them to cancel as well, luckily I paid with credit card deposit & balance.

We are flying out with BA from Glasgow to Miami, so we are expecting the flight to be cancelled by BA it looks like the odds on everything being cancelled for us.

As they say in Glasgow 'its been nice knowing you '

If they file chapter 11, then there won't' be any cash other than what remains for creditors.

If you have a good travel insurance policy, you still get your money back. And, if it happens in the middle of the cruise you may get 150% back.

NCL cancelled my Asian cruise that was set to sail 02/28/2021.  I paid my deposit with 2 cruisenext certificates I had. They only credited me back 1 of the 250 certificates.  I called to get the other one refunded and they said something about administrative fees.  Then, when I called again, it had something to do with the insurance that I purchased from them.  I said that doesn't make sense when NCL cancelled the cruise.  Why would I be paying anything and when I am obviously more than 120 days out?  I have gotten the run around all day.  I booked it through my caesar's rewards to get the 20% off.  So, they say they have to transfer me to them.  I talk to them, they send me to cruisenext dept. I talk to them, they send me back to reservations because they can't explain why I am being charged any fee.

NCL is beyond desperate if they have resorted to these shenanigans.

Is that Free at Sea?  I think they charge an administrative fee - so it's not NCL. Just like some TAs are charging for their commission, so some people aren't getting that back either.

No it isn't free at sea.  I think they mistakenly thought I used a casino cruise certificate when I just booked thru the casino to get the 20% discount.  I'm still trying to get it worked out.  Casino rep confirmed that I should not have any administrative fees on my account and should get my full refund.

nope they keep your cash. That is the whole idea of the Peace of Mind (their mind). Any money given to NCL becomes non-refundable deposit and they will sell you the same cruise in the future at an inflated price to get more of your money.

Why would they cancel a cruise over a year away?   Somethings weird here.  I may be wrong but.
