I did some measurements on mine.  It's an XL because my bust was too tight in the L.  The length from the top the back to the bottom is 36" and it's 5" from the middle of my knee.   I'm 5'8".

You and I are near the same height. But I only like skirts/dresses that at a minimum cover my knee and ideally are sort of mid-calf (but not "maxi" dresses -- I am too clumsy and would certainly step on the hem and pull it out or, worse, trip on it).

OK.   The only time I wear knee-covering was when it was required for work.  Mid-calf (and capris) just don't look right on me.  I have muscular calves so it looks like I'm cut off.  Shorter is best for me.

Quick crazy question.  All of a sudden, i got a bug in my brain about taking a quickie pacific coastal repo cruise from  Vancouver to San Diego.  I enjoy this one just for relaxing.  i've done NCL and Princess in the past.  HAL has some nicely inexpensive fares, even as a solo.  given the choice of these ships, which would you choose and why:  konigsdam, eurodam, new amsterdam, Noordam, zuiderdam.  The ports don't matter as i've been to everything on the West Coast.   Royal Carib. has the Radiance.  princess and celebrity have, but they are more expensive.  doing this on the major cheap.

Hey, it's another chance to wear a few of my dresses and get enough frequent flyer miles to up my delta status to silver...

Melody, I am on the December 10 Harmony sailing. I have been on Oasis class ships before and I really enjoy them. Hope your group does, too.

Thanks!!  Most of them have been Oasis class, our largest has been Liberty (we normally sail Celebrity). This group is a casino crowd. You’ll see most of the (big) group everyday in casino (I’m more go to the shows). Come up & say hi, we look just like our profile picture.

Wish I could help. We’ve only done Celebrity or Royal. I’ll ask my friend that just sailed HAL to Alaska, she really liked their ship. Melody

I would pick Konigsdam, its from the newest class and has several eateries that the other ships don't. However, Konigsdam is also the first HAL ship that doesn't have a full wraparound promenade deck (which doesn't matter to me but is very popular with the HAL regulars).  The Konigsdam also has the full "music walk" experience with the BB Kings Blues venue and the Rolling Stone rock room as well as the piano bar. The Dutch cafe has interesting goodies.

Noordam and Zuiderdam are the oldest of those you list, and they do not have the Asian-inspired Tamarind restaurant which is worth trying. It's on all of the other ships you list.

I don't know why but I've never warmed to the Eurodam and Nieuw Amsterdam -- the decor is a little weird and dated to me. The Konigsdam has a more modern design touch -- more like the Celebrity S-class ships (but still a bit more traditional).

HAL ships might be a good fit for you given what you have said you enjoy while cruising. Entertainment is not HAL's strong suit but they have lovely areas to sit and read or watch the water -- some other lines' newer ships are very interior focused but HAL ships still tend to have nice areas where you can see the ocean and feel like you're on a ship and not just in a hotel.

i had the Eurodam booked a couple of years ago but cancelled because my dog was in final stages of his blood cancer and i knew I'd have euthanize him at any day.

i can do konigsdam for under $500 for the 5 nights.   i'm not the entertainment-on-board person.   i'm not sure why i'm even thinking about this!!  maybe I want to give my dresses a last "hurrah' before they go into the closet for the winter.

Random musings;  if any of you do açaí bowls, try a pitaya bowl!  It's dragonfruit.  Done just like an açaí bowl.  But, it has a good fruity flavor and not the 'sour' end note ike açaí.  Got one this morning at the local bowl place.

if you like peanuts and asian peanut sauce, grab a jar of Salsa Cacahuete at Trader Joe's.  It's a Mexican twist on salsa - guajillo peppers and peanut butter and ground peanuts in red salsa.  It is really good - i want to try it on top of chicken,

OOTD:  another scorcher up here, so gray sleeveless T and my jean shorts.  Wearin my olu kai mesh sneakers.

While looking to stock up on some favorite condiments, I found a new one to try (also in the latest FF): Salsa de Cacahuate -- a salsa made with guajillo chiles and ground peanuts. Sounded intriguing.

I’m one of those that capris actually look pretty good on me. I don’t wear shirts outside the home as I have really ugly knees. If I wear a dress it’s a maxi (knees!!!)

I am right there with you, Melody!  I think I look ok in capris ( people might disagree😂) but due to years of running, several surgeries and arthritis, I only wear shorts when I walk on the beach.  Too hot in FL summers for long pants, so capris it is!  Dresses have to be middle of the knee at the shortest for me to feel comfortable.

Hi girls, hope everyone is well.  Melody, hope you are feeling good and the picture is lovely!

Sherri, how is the kitchen going? And I agree about the weather........it stays so hot and humid here, I am in shorts a lot.  And I wear capri's too......I know many gals who think i tis  a horrible way to dress......(well, from what I have read on line).....too bad really.  I have more things to worry about than if someone I don't even know thinks it is wrong to wear them.

I had some meds that should have been delivered the day I got back from my trip........never got them👎.  UPS has to deliver them as they come from a "Specialty Pharmacy".........I called them on Friday morning first thing.

(I got home Thursday night late)........and of course because of the holiday they are closed tomorrow too. So I am basically 5 days behind on taking these meds........I called Friday morning and the pharmacist had to start an investigation.........I called UPS too.........they would not help me☹️.

Now I have to wait till Tuesday morning to follow up............siggghhhhhhhhhhh

Lois - the crap with the meds is aggravating for sure.   One of the reasons I stick with my pharmacist is that he and his staff take great care of me.  Yesterday i went for my one refill (which they automatically do for me) and the tech said it was actually cheaper this time to pay the cash price than my medicare price because of the prescription "donut hole" I'm right now.  like $60 cheaper.  i doubt a mail order company would do that for me.

Hi Kat, I have a regular pharmacy too. But this specific medication has to come from a different one. Nothing I can do about it and it is the type of med I have to order each month. They actually come from Orlando.

Bummer.  i'm sure you have already, but is there a chance your local pharmacist could special order for you?  if you haven't it could be worth the conversation.

my thoughts of doing that Coastal are dead until maybe next Spring.  The fare, the port fees, the flights, airport parking fee, one hotel and it's over $1500.  it was just a wild thought, but I'll wait.  It was a fun thought for a couple of hours.

OOTD:  nothing going and it's just hot, so jeans shorts and a sleeveless T. i know that it's real low humidity now because my hair went flat and straight after being all fluffy yesterday.

Hi again, nope, the local pharmacy has nothing to do with this medication and even if they wanted to help, it is impossible.  Insurance/policy/etc......this is a cancer medication and has to be ordered specifically from from a "Specialty Pharmacy"..........

I even called my Hematologist and they don't even have anything available. He told me I would be ok even if I missed a week's worth.....which is probably going to happen. I won't know anything for sure until Tuesday or Wednesday.

x2 on the capris. I think a lot depends on body proportions. I have a shorter torso and longer legs than most.

But also, I never really understood how fashion dictates said capris make your legs look "stumpy" while happily recommending skirts of the same length???  Surely those skirts would not only make one's legs look equally stumpy but also make your hips look blockier due to the solid visual "space" of the skirt vs. capris or pants which have a more slimming separation between one's legs....

Does UPS drop them at your door or is it a sign for deal?  If it was a drop off likely you were a victim of a porch pirate

Hi Everyone,

Wow, lots to catch up with on this thread.we are in the middle of a ridiculous heat wave. PGE asking for power conversation especially between 4 & 9 pm.
so that means I certainly can’t cook-right? Just hoping the power stays on.

Cynthia, thanks for the hotel info. I looked at their website and liked what I saw especially their location and types of rooms. It is now bookmarked and in my Italy folder.

Sherri, I’m so sorry to hear about your dad. My mom also was determined to stay in her home……and then there was the kitchen fire. She had to move out while repairs were being done so my sister and I convinced her to stay “temporarily in an assisted living facility. Because mom was in her late 80’s the insurance company agreed to pay for her stay instead of the large furnished apartment complex that they originally suggested. Long story short. We convinced mom to make it a permanent move. By this point , she had made friends and liked it there. We consider that fire a blessing in disguise. As for seeing our GD again, that will be in Oct. only for a few days as kids will split their time between both sets of grandparents. My policy is, I need to know when I will see her again before the current visit ends. So far it’s working.

Melody, I’m sorry to hear about your medical issues and hopefully all the tests will bring good results while the acid reflux meds do their job. The balloon launch picture is so pretty. We used to have a yearly balloon festival here but no longer. Not sure why. So much fun going out just before dawn to watch them take off.

Kat, I can see why you are postponing that cruise. Adding it all up must have been a bit of a shock. I second Cynthia’s recommendation about HAL and agree their entertainment is not as dynamic as some other lines. We did enjoy the different music venues when we sailed Nieuw Statendam. Nice to enjoy an adult beverage and listen to the music.  Thanks for the Pitaya bowl info. Will have to look for that. I do like açaí bowels

Mr T, how did the cruise line survey go? Sounds like you have some fun trips ahead. Glad you are recovering well.

Lois, I hope you get that prescription delivery issue resolved. Doing without meds must being concerning. BTW when is your next cruise and what is the Itinerary?

Woolx is offering 22% off thru 9/5. The discount code is on their web site.

Saw a few pumpkin products at Trader Joe’s. Fall must be just ahead although you wouldn’t know it if you are anyplace in the West.

Take care all.

Sharon

I’d tell UPS that this has to be signed for, it’s too important to be dropped off

We went to Cirque de Soleil ‘Ovo’ last night. Great show!  Those acrobats & aerialists are phenomenal. Finally wore my new cardigan/duster/ruana/topper, whatever you call it!  Comfortable & perfect weight. Melody
