I've always said, everyone needs to have a hobby on which to waste money.  This is especially true for collectors.  It's just that some things are more expensive to collect than others.  For me, I "waste" my money on golf.  Oh yeah, and cruising.

My hobbies seem to keep changing.  Today’s hobby is bakin bacon 🥓. Right out of the oven.  I wanted to bake the rest of the package so I hung the pieces over the side to make room.  Now I have to find a way to use it all 😂.

That's it for the 2022 Amelia Concours d'Elegance.  Sorry for filling up so much space with car pics.  I'm glad that some of you enjoyed it and I apologize to the rest.  It's not really cruising content and it's certainly not "routine" for me.

For those wondering, I learned that the correct pronunciation is for the s in Concours to be silent, and for d'Elegance to be pronounced as one word (i.e., delegance, not de elegance).

The final awards were professionally broadcast on a large screen at the opposite end of the show field from where they were held.  I'm sure that Hagerty, who now owns the show, has it recorded but I don't know if they will ever post it anywhere.  I did find a blogger who live streamed almost all 2 hours of it (missed the first couple of minutes) but it's all hand-held from a single camera.  Better than nothing if you really want to watch it.  Click here.  The video quality improves after the first couple of minutes and the winning cars do drive right past him.

Is this an annual show?  I’m thinking about next March when we’ll be in FL for some time before the Bella cruise.

Beautiful car.  Before I finished reading I thought, why would you park it out with so many walking around it.  I don’t think I would either and I don’t think I would spend that much for a car. Thinking about it, where would you drive it.  If I stopped anywhere I would be concerned letting it sit in any parking spot.

When I met my DH he had a red Lamborghini Miura.  While it was absolutely beautiful, it was very impractical to drive.  No AC, no seat belts.  And he wouldn’t let a valet park it and it had to be parked where he could see it.  You had to be careful driving it as the car was so low…no speed bumps or potholes.  I often thought it should just be parked on a white carpet in a huge white bedroom.  Oh, his garage was carpeted so the car wouldn’t get cement dust on it.  I can’t tell you how thrilled he was when he accidentally left the garage door open and our cat, appreciating the finer things in life, took a nap on the passenger seat.

If someone  leaves their  tv on a news channel all day, they will have bigger issues than tv burn in.  I used to be guilty of watching a couple hours of news a day.  Now that I watch a very limited amount, life is so much more enjoyable.

Completely agree.  I probably take it too far in the other direction and gave up watching news all together.  Things sometimes happen locally or in the world that I don't know about.  Ignorance is bliss.

I was the same. I gave up having the newspaper delivered to the house since I can look up the news on the internet.  But a newspaper has a finite amount of news and when your finished, your done.  Looking up news stories on the internet would just drop me down into a never ending rabbit hole of info.

Kind of like Cruise Critic  but a lot less fun.

Right or wrong, I feel the same way about the news.  Andy says it’s not good to not know what’s happening in the world. My response is I’ll rely on him to let me know!  I’ll just bury my head in the sand and be more relaxed as a result.

Most of the gas station in my area are around that. I swear I think some gas stations are changing the price by the hour! lol

There is one station that has been charging $3.99 but that was yesterday.

A few days ago we went out to fill the tank.  So many were at our go to station we went down the road and paid .10 more.  The next morning they were all up another .10.  I’m thankful we drive a lot less now that we are both retired.

My expensive hobby’s are my music studio, cruising and fine bourbon.

Greg, did you watch the Spirit Awards last night ? The best reason for the awards is that it showcases actors ,directors, etc who are wonderful in their craft but are virtually unknown. The husband of a woman that I went to HS with has two Oscar nominations ,one for Tootsie and one for Raging Bull and a BAFTA nomination for Saturday Night Fever but nobody ever heard of him.My friend Gerry has been in the film industry since the late 60’s and nobody except his peers knows who he is.

Ferraris.  All red in a long line from earliest to latest.

The 1962 250 GTO is considered the most valuable Ferrari.  This specific car (below) sold for $48M in 2018!  And it's sitting on a golf course with thousands of people walking around it.  I have to hand it to the owner.  Not sure I'd be willing to do that after paying $48M.

I'm sure that some of these cars are never driven unless under very specific conditions.  They're really no different than art.  Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and pricing often seems to make no sense (other than supply and demand).  Some of these are just investments by car people who have a lot of money and want to own a piece of history.  Some keep them "permanently" in their collection, while others buy and sell.

I knew a guy many years ago who had a car that he kept in a garage .He only took it out on sunny Sundays in warm weather for short drives.

I was in Philly yesterday & it felt like an late spring / early summer day. Chance of wet snow & rain here in NY this Wednesday. 😐 I hate those annoying little messy snow falls. If it's going to snow, give me SNOW so I can use the snow blower again. I need to burn up the gas in the tank.  Although checking gas prices in the low $4.00 per gallon range, I may want to siphon it out for the cars. LOL

Weather this week is going to be a roller coaster. Highs ranging from 67 down to 37 and then back to the mid-50's. Lows will be also all over the map from 41 down to 21.

Last week a gallon of regular was $3.78, this weekend it was $4.19, today that same station is selling for $4.49.       I sure hope they find a way to stop this craziness by the time I rent the SUV in 2 weeks to drive to our cruise.

There were worse things your cat could have done other than a nap

Yes...annual and I believe always the first weekend in March.  Except for last year when it was delayed until May due to Covid.  If interested, I'd book a hotel early.

There are a bunch of shows across the country.  Some are open to the public, some are invitation only. Not sure if all shows are created equal, some may be larger or smaller depending on locale, time of year, etc.

My nephew has attended the one in Greenwich, CT which is about an hour drive for me.  The website is a bit out of date - it still have the news of the 2020 cancellation thanks to CV-19 - but list the next show as June 5, 2022.   Looks like there are some in Boston as well.

EDIT TO ADD: Found this link with more useful info. Show runs June 3 - 5, 2022.

It appears that Hagerty  - who owns the Amelia Island event -  also purchased the Greenwich, CT one back in 2019.

2 weeks?…  It would be nice to see it turn around before 2 weeks.  As high as it is shooting up I wonder if RC will start talking about a surcharge for fuel cost.

Roadsters.  Lots of Roadsters, especially 1932 Fords.  Must be the definitive Roadster model.

I found things like this to be interesting.  Below is a close-up of the paper in front of the above 1932 Ford Roadster showing a picture of this specific car winning 1st place in the 1948 Rose Bowl Hot Rod show.  History.

Some of the oldest cars have the most wonderful lines. I love the roadsters.
My all time favorite car design is the 1965 Ford Mustang.
Ours was red and beautiful.
It died when our son was driving home from school and was rear ended.
It erupted in a ball of fire and he and his friend barely made it out in time.
Scott went to the salvage yard and retrieved the ashtray. Nothing else to save, including their schoolbooks.

This was our last delivery until the fall, so that is good.  We only get three deliveries a season, October, January and March.

I'm pretty much on the same schedule. Once in awhile, I may need an additional delivery mid-summer as the boiler that heats the house also heats the hot water. So it runs all year but in the warm weather, its' really minimal.  I love the fact that I have never ending hot water and can take a hot shower while the dish washer & washing machine running at the same time.

Or a bacon cheeseburger.  Or a pizza with bacon bits.  Or...

Everything's better with bacon.

I ended up having to make some fried egg sandwiches with melted cheese so I had a place for the bacon to sit!  Sometimes we do what we have to do.  Still have more to eat. I have been meaning to try some on a pizza.  Have you tried it?  Sounds good.

Thanks, Greenwich CT is certainly doable for us, about a 2 hour drive.   The Boston one looks like it may be smaller.

I filled up at BJ's on Friday at $3.55.  It was $3.90 there yesterday and up to $3.98 today.  I have our home heating oil on auto delivery and got 162 gallons last week at $4.79/gallon. 😱

A friend here in Jacksonville just posted on Facebook she went to BJ’s today and paid $3.88. She also said the line wrapped around the parking lot.

Freeze some in a Ziplock bag and have a BLT sometime. It becomes a luxury item when you can just open your freezer and there it is!

Yes, but it’s on Amelia Island, Northeast Florida.
You could stay at Jax  Beach and take the ferry to the show.
