Is Nautica Refurb June 2020 going ahead ?

Recommended Posts

I asked Oceania a few days ago about when Nautica would be refurbished as we are booked on an August 2022 cruise. Sadly it’s not scheduled until 2023. I am not happy as we booked thinking Nautica would look as beautiful as the other ships. I thought there may have been a lowering of the price for our itinerary but sadly no. The new brochures all show Nautica as refurbished!

The confusion with 2023 is that would be the regularly scheduled maintenance and not necessarily the NeXT refurb. So, we wait fo further info. Where were the other R ship refurbs done. Barcelona or Italy?

Regatta  was done on the West coast I believe

Insignia  ? Bahamas?

Yes.  Marina was refurbished May 2021.

The two O ships did not receive the comprehensive “Oceania NEXT” interior redecoration. Rather, there were a few “nip and ticks.” NEXT was/is primarily an R ship project.

hopefully they updated the wifi, that was my only complaint.

There have been tech upgrades on all the ships (e.g., the “on demand” video, USB chargers, etc).

At the same time, however, it should be remembered that O’s servers are located in Miami. So, each ship’s public internet is at the mercy of satellite communications.

We understand from announcements today that Nautica refurb is now happening between Oct  2021 and April 2022 . Our 10th June 2022 cruise  however ( which is after the refurb date)  is  now cancelled - but seems not due to refurb as that will be finished by April, but instead of honouring the bookings between April and June they will use Nautica for new itineraries! Poor customer experience. All of the shipyards news bulletins say they have been operating during Covid so we do not understand why the refit for Nautica, which was scheduled to happen over a year ago, still hasn't been done and still won't be done even during all this increased no-cruise time and then will be taking what looks like 6 months to do (Oct - Apr). Also told this morning that refunds will be issued in order of cruise date - not by order of payment made - ours was the last itinerary in list to be cancelled - so guess we will be waiting a while to see our money.

Our Cancelled Nautica cruise was May 23, 2022, Singapore to IST. My guess is your beginning in Istanbul. We were tod the credits to our cards would be done in 30 days as they are being expedited.
good luck.

My bad guess. It looks like we would have been sailing together from Dubai to Istanbul. We did see that O’s suggested replacement cruise is May 10, 2023, Singapore to Dubai to Barcelona which is pretty much the same itinerary, minus Turkey.
I talked to my Specialist in Miami today after the news broke and she assured me credits were being processed much quicker than in the past. I have no idea however how it all works in the land of OZ however.
We have good friends in Adelaide and they seemed to be pretty much locked down into next year.  All we can do is hope Covid gets into our rear view mirror very soon.
Good luck with your credits.
Ciao,

Gerry and Bonnie

Maybe they were having a cash flow problem  ...better to pay customers their refunds  first  🙄

If you look at the bigger picture of the original Nautica itineraries that have now been eliminated, it has less to do with the NEXT project than it does with the Covid uncertainty of so many ports across those first six months of 2022 including those in Africa, India and Asia.

In addition, as is now clear, O wants to finish up honoring all the Covid related FCCs that were issued by no longer extending “cruise by” deadlines beyond 12/31/22. And that’s tough with the limited cabin availability still remaining. So, the Nautica cancellations (which will generate cash refunds and no FCCs  other than redeposits) will also create new cabin availability with the replacement cruises.

Thus, there are positives/negatives to this Nautica “restart plan” as regards existing/future bookings. But, IMO, it will help things get back to true booking normalcy beginning in 2023.

And though It will be a somewhat different situation, I expect that something similar will happen with Insignia. The 2022 ATW is happening albeit earlier segments involving OZ/NZ will need to be modified. So, one or more of those segment itineraries may end up cancelled and replaced with what ever are the new ATW ports. The cancelled cruises’ passengers will get cash refunds and the “replacement” segment cruises will add cabin availability for folks with time limited FCCs. Again, positive/negative in the short run but back to normal sooner than later in the long run.

Josie and Brian and all of you, so sad to see the news of our/your cancellations. I had just booked my return flights from Dubai on Monday, now desperately looking for a replacement cruise.

Sorry to miss you all, maybe on another cruise.

As disappointing/challenging as your replacement search might seem, there will now be new 2022 cabin availability for those who act quickly.

Why? See my post #115 above and this:
