Probably a Roman Road, but where I do not know.  Looks a bit Italian.

I'll accept that. Via Appia Antica is its official name. These days it is closed to all vehicles except those who live there and official vehicles, and that is policed - we watched a very uncomfortable couple of Polizia bouncing their way down it in their car when we were there. It's a gorgeous place to visit, out in the beautiful countryside and it has such a feel of antiquity about it. You can almost sense the ancient Romans travelling on that road, o foot, on horseback, by common cart or maybe the odd chariot.
