In the UK, it's also known a a vest, i.e. a sleeveless undergarment.

Beer swilling sloths seem to appreciate them.

See Onslow in _Keeping Up Appearances_  😁

Even he wore a dinner jacket when 'dining with the help' on the QE2

Just for my education , what is a wife beater T shirt, doesn't sound very elegant.

I won't  try and wind People up by suggesting Cunard add pictures of them as suggestions for casual attire

It is a tee shirt where the sleeves have been removed or torn off, which allows the 'gentlemen' wearers, hairy armpits to show. It might be useful if you are working in the garden in the middle of the Texas Summer and need all the cooling you can get, but that is the only place they should be worn, though it is not the only place they are seen.

Right - they are, in fact, occasionally seen in cruise ships’ dining rooms.

I think one area Princess wins hands down compared to Cunard is technology - both pre-trip and on board. It seems Cunard still has issues with online portal - have a booking  for 2022 - cant' even login in ! Doesn't recognize our login details. Plus you have to login separately for every cruise.  Princess has a bluetooth  dongle - called Medallion which allows you to open your door, order drinks and be tracked around the ship . You can check your bill online in yur cabin. Cunard you have to queue for a print out at the pursers office!  I wonder if Cunard will actually adopt Princess technology - I can see continuously location  tracking being mandatory post-covid

Interestingly in QM2s early years you could order wine through the TV in your cabin, and I think, though I'm not sure, check your bill. They had stopped that by the next time we sailed in her.

But why on earth would you want to be tracked round the ship? Sounds Orwellian.

Agreed — one of the things I like about cruising is the sense of dropping out of the world for a bit;   I do not need high-tech TV applications, etc.  to enjoy myself - in fact, I believe I could still function reasonably well with a brass room key.

On our only P & O trip, which was primarily to see our daughter who was the principal Headliners singer, we were quite disappointed with the lack of entertainment. Consequently, I spent many hours on walkabout visiting various water holes.

On the basis that it's hard to hit a moving target, I never stayed too long in any location.

Imagine my surprise when I got a tap on the shoulder and turned round to see my wife and daughter.

I asked how they knew where I was. My daughter said that it was easy, and that all she had to do was show her mom the interactive TV billing, and see where I last bought a drink.

Too much information.

As I stated earlier we have sailedi many times  Princess.  I like the fact you can check your account without joining a queue at Pursers.  This is a plus with the return to cruising.

The food is comparable and most fo the service is too.

However I like dressing for dinner and the standards of dress are beyond belief on occasions.

Contact tracing  Taiwan has had no lock downs - they do have aggressive contact  tracing though which meant they could shut down the virus outbreaks very efficiently - they are the most successful country for controlling the virus. New Zealand requests people to track their own movements via QR codes at  businesses and is trialing a bluetooth card worn around the neck (like a cruise card) which will do so automatically.

I'd much rather be tracked electronically than have to wear a mask and keep 2m away from strangers!

I have only been on one Princess cruise and was sorely disappointed.  I can only describe it as a BOOZE CRUISE.  To get to the buffet we had to walk through the pool area with many drunken people staggering about. That atmosphere permeated the ship.  When I asked someone from our group about that whole scene, they told me this cruise had an inexpensive all included drink package. Those folks were sure getting their money's worth.  Also, many children were running all over the ship unsupervised.  However, there were some good things:  our suite was nice with a great balcony and the spa was exceptional. I did hit a large jackpot in the casino which paid for our cruise.  However, those things are not enough to tempt me ever again.  I guess, it just depends on what sort of ambience you enjoy.  And, the person who made the observation about many men sporting "wife beater" T-shirts was spot on.

Was the cruise in question a one week out of Miami,  never been on one but all the ones that have been on TV look like party  cruises. Expect not all Princess cruises are like this, especially out of Southampton.

Length of  cruise and intinerary have a big impact on clientele and hence atmosphere.

True. But, since I live on the West Coast, I often take cheaper, short little itineraries to Mexico and repos (including an upcoming 5 night to Cabo) - trips, which on Carnival or many other lines would def be a booze cruise, but I still don't see it on those cruises.

Not doubting the OP's experiences, but I'd like to point out that the scene he describes is highly unusual for Princess.
