I don't use a medallion, I request a regular old black cruise card. There should be no line to check in for me since all of you will have used that medallion. Elite tier has their own waiting area at the San Pedro terminal and boards after the B2B's.

In the past I requested a "regular old cruise card" once on board. But I did find the medallions useful, although I used my phone for nothing once on board. I asked for, and was given the plastic cruise card at the purser's desk. I have collected cards from all our past cruises, so I hate to stop that collection now. So far the cruise line had a card to give me; not sure if that will continue in the future.

So now you can collect medallions.

It's a shame that you didn't use your phone on your past medallion sailings, as the 1st cocktail ordered on the app was always free.

My guess is everyone will be required to have one for contact tracing. On our upcoming RCI cruise everyone must wear a wrist band for contact tracing purposes.

I do not want to collect medallions....I want to continue my old card collection!😎 Got a lot of them from 40 years of cruising, and doubt I'll collect enough medallions at my age.......

 

Oh, trust me, I got my free cocktail ☺️.......but I recall I ordered that with the TV in the cabin and not the phone.

I collect 16mm movies...they don't make them anymore, so I had to switch to DVDs, and Blu Ray.

As long as there is a warning inside the medallion you receive stating it is not recommended for people with pacemakers or other magnets there will be plastic style cruise cards. The liability would be to great not to have an alternative with such a warning IN PRINT! It is impossible to keep 6 feet away from your own medallion let alone some else's in an elevator or seated in the theatre or seated in the casino or in line for a coffee at the IC. 

 

The information booklet that comes with the Medallion has this warning

 

"CAUTION:  Product contains  magnets which could be harmful to pacemaker users and others with medical implants.  The Ocean Medallion should be kept at least 6" away from pacemakers and other sensitive medical equipment. "

maybe if Princess decides on a generic ( say white , with some kind of medically necessary symbol) color for all future requests for a cruise card instead of a Medallion - then see how quick cruisers will exchange an OM and not get their beloved black card ...

Yes indeed mea culpa!

But the warning re magnets and the medallion still remains.
