That news was news to officials at the Port of Galveston..." "... Port of Galveston officials were caught off guard by the news and said they had no information about plans for Norwegian to sail into Galveston next year. Only three cruise lines — Royal Caribbean, Carnival and Disney — operate out of the port. Norwegian has never sailed out of the port of Galveston..." TxShipShape Posted May 12, 2021 #2 Share Posted May 12, 2021 Never out of Galveston but many years ago NCL did sail out of Houston, so they do have some history here.
SCBarker Posted May 12, 2021 #3 Share Posted May 12, 2021 (edited) I read it as making a stop in Galveston, not as an embarkation port. 2 hours ago, TxShipShape said: Never out of Galveston but many years ago NCL did sail out of Houston, so they do have some history here. My first cruise was on Caribbean Princess in 2014 out of the Houston port. NCL was out of there at the same time. After the tax incentives left, the cruise lines did too. There's one cruise ending in Galveston followed by a cruise departing Galveston. If you go to NCL's website you'll see both available for booking. SNJCruisers Posted June 17, 2021 #6 Share Posted June 17, 2021 It's the NCL Prima doing an 11 day cruise from NYC arriving on 10/31/22 and leaving the same day for an 11 day cruise to Miami, stopping at Cozumel, Aruba, Bonaire, Curacao and Stirrup Cay with 5 days at sea. We have booked the cruise out of Galveston on 10/31/22 so we have some time to plan. Since we have never cruised out of Galveston before, we are looking for advice and information: First, what kind of options will we have to get from airport in Houston to Galveston? How long is the travel time? Second, would you advise a hotel in Galveston close to pier?

Definitely want to stay on the island instead of Houston. Maybe see if we can afford a couple of days pre-cruise.

choose2cruz Posted July 19, 2021 #15 Share Posted July 19, 2021 Update on the story from Fox26 Houston from the same date, May 12, 2021 confirms the article mentioned in the OP and gives further details. https://www.fox26houston.com/news/carnival-norwegian-cruise-lines-announce-plans-to-sail-from-galveston#:~:text=The Port of Galveston confirms Norwegian Cruise Lines,ship%2C" said Port of Galveston CEO Rodger Rees. "Rees says the 3200-passenger Prima will set sail on a 3-day cruise from Galveston on October 27th, and a 4-day cruise from the port on October 31. And Galveston may see more of Norwegian after that." That's great news for me. I'm within easy driving distance of Galveston and would certainly cruise NCL more often if they make this permanent.
