Re: newbies and blackjack

B. Yes. It can be frustrating when the 3rd base newbies showing 14 take a hit and catch the card the dealer showing a 6 would have gotten while your sitting at 18 - but again - 6 decks in the shoe, the odds of them effecting the next card out don’t vary significantly from them not being there. Single deck is more frustrating and less chance of a high card after the last one - but again it’s still 100% random. They could have just as easily saved you from a 3/4/5.

The odds do not change at all.

Last time I remember using my seapass. I didn't know that there was an option to use money. Can you use money and still scan your seapass to earn points for the casino?

P.S. I didn't max my credit card.

Yes

We only use cash, and now you insert your seapass card into the machines to earn points. On several recent cruises, there has been a $5 casino credit preloaded on our cards that we cashed in the first time we hit the casino.

Overall, yes.  But individual players DO win.  I have won over more trips/cruises than I have lost on.

I wish I could say I have won more than I lost in ships casinos, I have won more in my monthly poker games.

Craps is my favorite and has the lowest house advantage of any of the games provided you stick with pass/don't pass. I never play the proposition bets (side bets) and always put a place bet on the 6 & 8.

I agree with Sea Dog. Craps is my game. It can be more intimidating and you generally need more money bet than most games. If you play a simple game it isn't too bad.  You need at least $100 to start to play for a little while. Also table minimum bets can get higher at night. Yes...prop bets are sucker bets. I do like come bets however. I took table lesson in Vegas years ago and the rest is history

I can barely spell casino and have never played any kind of game of chance, except Blackjack with my brother-in-law in which I lost $14 when I was like 12 years old ☹️- which explains my ignorance of such activities.

That said, the lovely wife has voiced some curiosity about taking part in some casino games (she too is a tee-totaler when it comes to gambling), but since neither of us have any idea how to start, we never have.  So, what would you reccommend to a couple who want to dabble with some games just for fun - I'm pretty tight, so my allowable "expendable cash" limit is low - like maybe $20 per visit.

By the way, are you always playing for money at the casino or are there other possible prizes like OBC, drink packages, specialty restaurant vouchers, etc.?  What denomination of currency should I use, quarters, dollar bills??

Thanks all.

If you want some fun with very little risk we would recommend Roulette ( over a whole cruise we have lost just once playing our system).

First, as others have suggested, take the free lessons.

How to play:

Choose a table with a 💲5 minimum.

We buy 💲20 to 💲30 of chips per night.

Play corners only i.e. you are covering 4 numbers with each chip, make sure there are no overlaps.

Your 💲5 is now covering 20 numbers giving you pretty much an even bet.

When you win leave the winning chip in place now you only need 💲4 chips for the next spin.

Keep your gambling chips to one side and winning chips separate.

Once you have played all your gambling chips cash in your winning chips and walk away. Repeat daily.

Do not chase loses.

You will never win a fortune, but you will have fun.

Enjoy.

Still a losing proposition.

You have a 1:9.25 chance of winning the bet at a payout of 8:1.

Still, if you get lucky, you could play for a bit of time.  Jacks or better video poker has better odds.

Your best bet in my opinion is play Bingo on the last day. They packages are usually around $25 and the cash jackpot is usually best on the last day.

For casino games, I'd agree that $20 is not much to start with or play long with on a cruise ship.

We were on the Odyssey in June and I played poker the 1st few nights. I got bored because I was folding most of my hands and also the table minimum was slightly above my comfort level. So I watched and observed the table game Ultimate Texas Hold Em. I played for a little while to get my feet wet and then went back to my room and watched a few videos on it to learn some strategy. I played it the rest of the week. I only lost about $50 bucks but had a blast being involved in every hand and coming close a couple times to having a royal flush.

Your maths confuse me. There are 36 numbers on the wheel, 37 if you play on one with a single Zero.

With 💲5 on corners you cover 20 numbers roughly half the total. With average luck you will break even. Our last cruise was a B2B (Silhouette in May for 19 nights) when we converted 💲870 of OBC to 💲970 cash using this system and had a lot of fun. Most times we walk away with a small profit and have only actually lost money on one cruise.

Am I offering a guarantee - no. But the original request was for tips on how to have fun with minimal risk and I consider our system does that.

All the RCCL ships have wheels with both a 0 and 00.  That's 38 in all.  Your $5 bet covers four numbers.  Your odds of winning are 4 in 38 or once every 9 1/2 spins.

Your 9 1/2 spins will cost you $47.50.  Your payout will be 8 to 1 or $40.  In other words, on average, you will lose $7.50 for every 9 1/2 spins.

You should be very happy that you have been lucky and, as you say, you had a lot of fun.  Just consider gambling to be entertainment, not an investment.

Sorry you have misunderstood or I explained badly. My 💲5 bet covers 20 numbers (we cover 4 numbers with each chip. A win on any of my 20 numbers pays 💲8. We play for fun.

Somehow I deleted the middle part of my message.

We cover 20 numbers without over lapping. The following is an example , not a specific recommendation, but just to illustrate the method.

Always better to play on a wheel with only 1 zero.

Chip 1: covers 1,2,4 and 5

Chip 2: covers 7,8,10 and 11

Chip 3: covers 14,15,17 and 18

Chip 4 covers 19,20,22 and 23

Chip 5 covers 26,27,29 and 30.

Each chip goes in the centre of the 4 numbers, i.e. on the diagonal.

As we said just fun with little risk of a big loss and no chance of a big profit.

Never chase loses, keep winnings in a separate pile, walk away when original chips have been played.

If you have promotional chips i. e. ones bought with non refundable OBC you can't use them on the outer part of the board i.e. odds/evens, red/black etc. Nor can you change them for cash but winnings are real money.

Have fun

For a fun and low-stakes introduction to gambling, I'd recommend sports betting. It's not only exciting but can also be more reliable than casino games, with potentially higher chances of big wins. Plus, you can start with a small budget, like your $20 limit per visit.

However, it's crucial to bet on verified and safe sites to ensure a fair and secure betting experience. So, before diving into sports betting, it's wise to do some homework and check all the necessary information to maximize your chances of winning.
