Most can travel an average of more than 20 with no issue if needed and have a maximum speed of around 24. She reached around 21 knots during her trials. But it is difficult to sail that long distance over 20 knots because the wind and the current have to be always optimal for it. And over such a long distance you have sometimes days where you have headwinds or countercurrents. So I would consider 15-18 knots on average for this distance is realistic for the Explora I. Rare steamboats Posted July 18, 2023 #456 Share Posted July 18, 2023 Usually the ships have enough fuel onboard to sail for 2 weeks on regular traveling speed (which is between 13 and 17 kn). So there wouldn´t a stop needed on the way to Copenhagen. They can refuel there. steamboats
Rare steamboats Posted July 19, 2023 #457 Share Posted July 19, 2023 Promising news for those on the Aug 1st cruise. There are reports that media has been invited for a preview cruise out of Portsmouth to Copenhagen. steamboats
Wheelhouse Posted July 19, 2023 #458 Share Posted July 19, 2023 There is now a "My Explora Journey" App for Apple available. But like the ship its a bit operationally delayed. I am presently unable to login.
Rare steamboats Posted July 20, 2023 #459 Share Posted July 20, 2023 More news... The christening as well as the handover will be today in Monfalcone - so four days earlier than announced. The panels stay onboard (also on the MSC Euribia) and are regarded safe. steamboats

Maybe as they haven’t had to pay for huge refit costs or additional cancellations they can be more “generous” to those impacted. The 30% voucher only valid for 12 months is meaningless given the price increases now applied

jjs217 Posted July 20, 2023 #465 Share Posted July 20, 2023 This must also explain why Explora Journeys wasn't more proactive in cancelling more cruises. Perhaps they knew what was going on and waiting for the all clear. Still upsetting.

InsGuy3 Posted July 20, 2023 #469 Share Posted July 20, 2023 According to my TA, Explora leaves the yard today in Monfalcone. Making two stops along the way to Copenhagen for her August 1st maiden journey. They stop in Barcelona and again in Portsmouth.
Oh2Bcruisin Posted July 20, 2023 #470 Share Posted July 20, 2023 I just posted on the inaugural thread that they are still in Monfalcone, Italy and their AIS shows them arriving in Barcelona on 7/24 at 06:30.
Rare morpheusofthesea Posted July 20, 2023 #471 Share Posted July 20, 2023 Sorry, I didn't know any competitor can test a product and have it decertified on their say so.
kelleherdl Posted July 21, 2023 #472 Share Posted July 21, 2023 An very trivial interesting observation. Cruise Mapper labels Explora I as MSC Explora I, Marine Traffic labels it as Explora I. Explora Journeys has never used MSC Explora I so I would think Cruise Mapper need to change. Good news is she is underway in the Adriatic.
Rare FlyerTalker Posted July 21, 2023 #473 Share Posted July 21, 2023 And the port of Reykjavik calls it "MSC Explora I", New York calls it "MSC Explorer" and I haven't bothered to look up a lot of others.
Rare steamboats Posted July 21, 2023 #474 Share Posted July 21, 2023 Explora I left Monfalcone yesterday evening past 7 pm on her way to Barcelona. And BTW, it was not the christening by Sylvia Earle but the traditional bottle break at the delivery ceremony. The so called shipyard christening was done by Zoe Africa Vago. steamboats
