irishfun15 Posted October 21, 2021 #1 Share Posted October 21, 2021 For anyone that has cruised on Sky Princess, looking at the deck plans of decks 8 to 14, what is that space in the centre? For example on the photo attached, the space between R734 and R735. Has anyone been in one of these cabins on either side of that space and can shed some light on what it is? If I were to guess on this I should say it is probably some sort of crew only stairwell. Regards John
station10fd Posted October 21, 2021 #4 Share Posted October 21, 2021 (edited) Could be a ventilation exhaust. We stayed in a similar location on a Grand class ship. We did not like it there. At port or not moving, the ventilation noise was too loud for our liking, and it had an odor which was stale and musty. When the ship was moving, the noise was drowned out by the lovely wake noise. msw.delafield Posted October 22, 2021 #5 Share Posted October 22, 2021 There is a similar space between the center forward facing cabins on these ships. We inquired during a previous cruise - our question at the time was about the space at the front. Was explained that the forward white space is a tight stairway access that crew can climb up from the bridge deck to quickly/directly access the navigational equipment mounted atop the bridge at the front of the ship. There is a small array of I would also expect that space could additionally be used for running any infrastructure (venting, cabling, pipes, etc.). While our inquiry was specific to the space at the front of the ship - is possible the rear 'white space' is for something of this nature. Welcome to Cruise Critic. Good move to avoid a cabin next to the white areas. Might be a crew passage, possibly a crew stairway with noisy metal stairs, or a housekeeping storage, all of which can be noisy at all hours... just avoid them. Sea Hag Posted October 22, 2021 #7 Share Posted October 22, 2021 I'm guessing it's ventilation, since it runs up through multiple decks. I would steer clear of it.

I think it could be the access to the flagpole

Haven't looked at the deck plans, but for the most part, the large "white spaces" running down the center of passenger cabin decks are AC fan/air handler rooms.
