cruisin'mama Posted October 24, 2021 #1 Share Posted October 24, 2021 I realize things are different now, but in the past, when did Christmas/holiday decorations get put up on HAL ships? We are sailing on Dec 5th and we’re wondering if the ship might be decorated.
Rare cbr663 Posted October 24, 2021 #2 Share Posted October 24, 2021 (edited) Highly doubt it. Christmas decorations usually go up for those cruises that actually occur during Christmas Day. So a cruise from Dec 5th to the 12th or 19th would not make the cut. If you are disembarking close to Christmas Day, say the 22nd, you may experience the decorations toward the end of the cruise as they prepare for the Christmas cruise. But who knows what they will do this year. Edited October 24, 2021 by cbr663
RuthC Posted October 24, 2021 #3 Share Posted October 24, 2021 Christmas decorations usually start well before the Christmas cruise, and progress over a period of time. I was once on a cruise starting December 5th, and the ship was nicely decorated well before I disembarked. When it actually starts depends to some extent on when the ship arrives in their turn-around port so the decorations, and the people who will do the decorating, can get aboard to do the job.

We have been on three HAL cruises the very first part of December and the ships were grandly decorated for Christmas and Hanukkah.
cruisin'mama Posted October 25, 2021 Author #5 Share Posted October 25, 2021 Thanks everyone! I guess we’ll just have to wait and see! I have a son who has Down Syndrome and loves Christmas and I thought he would really like it if the ship was decorated.
KirkNC Posted October 25, 2021 #6 Share Posted October 25, 2021 It might not be decorated when you get on but I would think it would be before you get off. They usually go up the first week of December.

We've only been on Carnival over the Christmas holidays. A lot of passengers decorated their cabin doors. It's fun walking the halls and looking at how creative some people can get with a door. Do a lot of passengers decorate their doors on HAL too?
dchip Posted October 25, 2021 #8 Share Posted October 25, 2021 On the Amsterdam in 2019, the ship was decorated on 11/28. It was wonderful. Denise

Rare cbr663 Posted October 25, 2021 #10 Share Posted October 25, 2021 Please let us know what happens on your cruise. We once did an early Dec cruise and we didn't have any. But others have pointed out that they have experienced decorations in early Dec. Perhaps yet another example of HAL's inconsistency.
KAKcruiser Posted October 25, 2021 #11 Share Posted October 25, 2021 It may depend on the ship. In the old days, the decorations were put up over the course of the voyage by the crew. I think that now on the newer ships they were put up by a company that comes on board during embarkation.
