What I can tell you about the smoking situation in the Ruby so far. The Promenade deck is fully opened. There is an area on the starboard side of the aft promenade with many ashtrays for the crew. We are moving so I haven’t smelled smoke. When I walked this morning there was no one smoking there. More later.

I have asthma, as so many people do.  When we walked on the deck one day there were at least 3 crew smoking and I held my breath when I walked by.  I was unhappy.  Also, hate the stinky casino (smoke travels to non-smoking side, of course), only go on the evenings when there is no smoking.

We are on the Grand now.  The Aft smoking situation on Promenade deck.is not good.   The whole back area Aft is roped off, for crew to smoke & it’s not just @ nite. It’s all day and night.  Don’t let anyone tell you different the smoke smell comes up weather the the ship is moving or not.  All day & nite.
The hotel director offered to change our cabin, my DH said no, it’s took much trouble.  It’s 10 days & I brought too much stuff.

This is extremely disappointing! I hope many complaints are made to many parties on Princess and at the Corporate Office. I will do so as well.

We would be beyond pissed off. I hope it doesn't ruin your whole cruise.

Moving fare-paying pax is not the answer ...

Move the crew smoking totally away from pax areas ...

Why not the crew bow area?

Or is that too inconvenient for crew to make their way there?  Poor things!

I feel really good knowing I did all I can do.  When I asked that Director who I should go thu @ corporate office is, and that I did go thru the right department even before I Ieft, which is customer relations@princess.com.  They should pass it on to the right upper management @ Princess.  I did let him know they didn’t respond to my 3 emails.   I’m sure they have their hands full.

i appreciate your concern,

Grace

The Director did mention that, but that it was too windy.  And that they needed a place they could separate them from the passengers.  That’s why it’s been roped off.  (Whole Aft Promenade deck)
Wish I would have taken a photo when I went under the rope yesterday @ about 4:00PM to actually see what was going on. The Captain had just announced he was ready to take off.  I was surprised to see at least  25 crew members smoking there then,  Some of them could have been show dancers.  The cruise Director escorted me out of the area.
Not sure, but I think there’s only about 700 passengers onboard, so I have this feeling that all staff has heard about this.  Oh Great!

So, that means that it was NEVER windy before on the bow? LOL!!!

This needs to change.

We feel the same, especially when we have another cruise scheduled on the Grand this coming April in the same suite 15 days to Hawaii.  Hopefully it’s a go🤨

I think Princess is playing a dangerous game as they struggle to survive.

Hack off enough people with such "we really don't care" attitude  and pax move on regardless of loyalty status.

Loyalty is not a one-way street ... and playing these games (turning part of a deck into an ashtray, serving sub-par food, moving pax last-minute to less desirable cabins, etc.) might explain their current low occupancy ... 30% or so won't pay the bills for Princess much longer.

If they are going to try and move aft full suites to lower class cabins then they are going to have to be prepared to comp a lot of cruises.  It has been reported that people who lost their suites to isolation areas have reported keeping there perks and cruise fare comped - these all happened pre cruise

I told all of you weeks ago and people tried to say it wasn’t true. They have to correct this.

Me & lots of people thank you for giving us the heads up about it.  I was one of the people that did believe you.  That’s why I sent 3 emails to customer relations, but never heard back.  Let’s see how that goes.

Still on the Grand right now, but I will post about it when we get home tomorrow.

Most aft suites or cabins will not be happy.  Please ask, if you want real details.

I will give you first hand experience. I don’t feel comfortable writing about it, while still on the ship.

Thanks

Came back as I said I would about what happened from post above #107.

The next thing was the Cruise Director Gary,  led me to the Guest Services Director’s office Giancarlo & we talked. I told him that particular (whole Aft Promenade deck) was not going to be okay as a smoking area for all those crew members. Mine  & all those other cabins, mini suites and suites above that area would have to endure that cigarette smoke odor coming up from deck 7 at all different times of the day & nite. He said it was decided at corporate offices that was the only & best place for them to smoke. He gave me the impression that because of COVID they had to give the crew a larger area to smoke that was not where the passengers could be around since it was (roped off) He said, some of the smoking areas were too small for the crew & they can’t be bunched together .   And certain crew members are assigned different smoking areas & this is one of them.  He also said that most of the ships now don’t have a full Promenade deck, so giving up this was a natural choice & that yes it will have to be used & robed off for the crew 24 hours a day 7 days a week for their smoking for them to have ventilation.  I did emphasized that the passengers were paying customers & why should we have to suffer the smoke smell. Also I told him all aft & part of both (Port & Starboard side) cabins SHOULD  have been notified by email, of this new area that Corporate decided to allocate for the crew.  We should also have been notified that the Promenade deck is now not fully open to passengers.  And that about a quarter of the deck is now unusable for passengers. He didn’t seem to think that was important.  He offered to give me a complimentary message .  I said , no I’m not looking for anything complimentary.  I just wanted him to know how upset I was. And that I felt it was unfair to the paying guests.  He also was offering us to change cabins & that it was an (upgrade) to a penthouse suite  instead of a Vista suites. I told him we liked being in the back & that it was too much trouble to move. He said, to talk it over with my DH & let him know the next AM.  We told him “no” .  We would just limit our use of the balcony, but we wanted the water pressure fixed in the bath tub took 2-3 hours to fill & we wanted them to give us hot water in the  bathroom, because there wasn’t any . The plumbers worked on those issues the next day for a few hours & all was fixed, except of course the smoke smell that will probably never change until Corporate does something.
I will be doing the survey & will bring up this smoking issue, but I don’t think it will be much of a priority for Corporate,  considering all the physical conditions that need attention on the Grand.  I love that it’s small & the staff was great.

In addition to the survey, send your concerns to upper management via E-mails.

Passengers should not have to experience cigarette smoke on the balconies after booking some of the most expensive cabins of each type on a ship.

I forgot I did talk to him about how they allow smoking in the Casino, but that wearing a mask in the Casino was mandatory.   How does that work & that we all realize it’s a joke.

Thanks for trying. I’m not going to give up my aft cabins so I will be moving on to another line after my next Princess cruise. I will be happy to sail Princess again when they change their policy on smoking.

Thank you for reporting your experience ...

Apparently Princess has made their decision ...

Helped me make mine ...

Such a shame that Princess has placed such a high priority on crew smoking ...

When fare-paying passengers ought to be at the head of the line.
