Cigarette smoke on your aft facing balcony from the new crew smoking ar

I agree.  It isn't as simple as insisting on a new cabin.  Anywhere else to us, is a downgrade, even in a higher priced cabin.

Agreed. The mesmerizing wake, especially at night, cannot be matched anywhere else on the ship.

My guess is the intent is to let Princess know if they do not eliminate crew smoking in the aft area, they will have a number of cancellations by loyal cruisers who have booked some of the more expensive cabins in the categories these cabins are in.

I have learned that bringing issues to the attention of the powers that be, is worth it. I have been working on a few community issues in my town and have made headway. The City Council has told me that if they are not aware of the issues and how the citizens feel about them, then they are very difficult to address.

Because of cold weather (no one smokes in the outdoor areas ) and Churchill’s being closed the smoke pouring out of the casino is intolerable.  It permeates everywhere on deck 5,6 & 7…..piazza, vines, stores, MDR entrance, customer service desk, loyalty desk…. It’s impossible to enjoy any of these spaces. 
 

It is utterly disgusting. 

 

Top it off with the promenade being unavailable because of crew smoking.   I am done. Just done. 
 

While the weather was good and the seas were smooth this wasn’t a problem. But really???? Since when do you count on THAT for a good experience?  
 

The sea is what the sea is and the flipping intolerable consequences of accommodating smokers when it acts up is beyond what I care to bear. 

I have CFAR insurance and will use it. 

 
I hope the smokers can sustain Princess as I still own stocks. 
 

Bummer.  Hate to see you go, but gotta stick to your guns.  Hope you find an acceptable replacement line.

I finally heard back from the many higher ups I had emailed the beginning of November.  They don’t seem to give two hoots how much they inconvenience their paying passengers.      This was one I addressed to Jan S. & here’s the response ::

 

Mrs.  

Thank you for your correspondence addressed to Jan Swartz, regarding your cruise aboard Grand Princess.  Your letter has been forwarded to the Customer Relations Department, and we appreciate the opportunity to respond.

 

We are very sorry to hear of the upset caused by the designated smoking area for our crew members.

 

Please note, due to the current covid situation it was decided prior to starting operation, to move deck 8 indoor smoking area to make the smoking area, deck  7 aft, open deck as designated smoking area in conjunction with Shore side Management.  This arrangement happened in other Princess ships as well.  At this time, this area will be the designated smoking area and no changes are noted at this time.

 

We recommend you contact your Travel Agent to discuss  your upcoming cruise and a possible cabin change (if available).  Again, we are very sorry for the upset this matter has caused and hope this information is helpful.

Keep in mind that the crew can smoke on their balconies while they are in isolation, so any cabins close to that space may get impacted by smoke.  On the Majestic the quarantine are was forward, Dolphin deck , starboard side.

 

This will continue as long as they need to keep crew in quarantine whenever they join a ship.

I thought it was such a fire hazard?  Forward,-Dolphin-starboard and

Promenade aft?  Sounds like all ships

I understand about the fire hazard ... saw pix of the Star, and it was horrific.

 

Just wondering if pax and crew are being treated fairly and equitably.

Yes, 1 died and 11 injured, a lot

of damage, caused by an unattended cigarette, supposedly.  
Not sure how they could allow any balcony smoking?  What a dilemma!

 

During the covid outbreaks on all the

ships, when people were quarantined,

sick and some died, I did not hear that anyone was allowed to smoke.  It was still prohibited.  How did they control 

the smoking then for crews?

Actually more of move because the majority of passengers wanted more of a non-smoking environment.  

 

Throwing cigarette butts over board would be a potential fire hazard, not necessarily smoking itself.  Many lines used to allow smoking on balconies at one time.    The crew members smoking on their quarantine room balconies all had ash trays.

So true.  But, cruiselines should have learned from those terrible fires.  I remember hearing about fires on Carnival  and Princess ships.  We had one on RCL in the Med about 10 years

ago, that set off alarms.  Some moron was smoking and threw his lit cigarette in a trash can inside, near an elevator. Cameras everywhere 

people!  Anyway, they quickly put it out

The fact that someone threw a cigarette into a trashcan on a ship is more about allowing passenger smoking.

 

Crew, unlike passengers, are trained in shipboard safety including fire fighting.

 

The fire on the Princess ship was never resolved, it included a possible cause could have been a cigarette butt which could have been  thrown from above, which of could happen from the existing smoking areas as well.  The exact cause was never proven.

Well, we don’t have any control over procedures, only what we can do.

If this is a corporate decision, then they can also create a policy that there will be no smoking in the casino.  Make half the aft for crew and the other half for passengers (or wherever they have designated as passenger smoking area).  This will at least create a pleasant environment for those who do not smoke.  A "safe" haven in the casino and Piazza area where smoke "escapes" from the casino.

 

And what about the Royal Class ships that have no Aft promenade.  Where are the crew smoking?

Did Jan even get to read the email?  I think your concerns should at least have reached upper management before being forwarded to Customer Relations.  Valiant effort on your part for all of "us" passengers.
