Unless the website is improved the only way I have found to get the discount applied is to call Celebrity and purchase the upgrade over the phone. Find a bar you may frequent, use a bartender there, you'll have a friend for the entire cruise....the bartenders get a cut of the upgrade, is my understanding, and from the service this has gotten me, I believe it. Thought I would do it now just in case price goes up. I have OBC that I can use. DW is always afraid the sticker will come off. I know the upgrade is programmed onto the card, but we've been hit with upsell charges that the PALL was supposed to cover, as has everyone at some point. Never had that issue...I've always upgraded at the Sunset Bar...I frequent there....best service ever on a cruise doing this a few times. Wife and I always both upgrade.. IF you want drinks and more, not sure that can be done on the ship. I have done that online once for the casino credits... But with one exception the upgrade has been $10 + gratuity for years. Once they raised the price of the price of the beverage packages that created a $14 difference, that got changed rather quickly and the $10 differential was back. We're only Select, so the savings was just 5%. I shouldn't even have called. The kicker was I, like everyone else, got the email to upgrade and get our discount, with the number to call included in the email. I called, and after 20-30 minutes, spoke to someone who said my TA had to make the upgrade! I said I was sent the email, and since I'd already waited, couldn't someone help? He transferred me, where I again waited on hold. When someone answered, I explained I wanted to upgrade my drinks package, and she attempted to transfer me back to the first department! I explained the situation, and she transferred me to the travel agent line. Part of me wanted to remain on hold since I'd already wasted so much time, but I decided the 5% savings wasn't worth it, so I hung up and booked through the Cruise Planner. We were going to upgrade to premium on the ship at a favorite bar (so we can use our OBC from our TA. Will they give us our 10% discount onboard? I apologize if this has already be answered. Thank you Probably not, the discount is for upgrading pre cruise. We have rarely upgraded onboard and have always had great service. Our favorite bar normally has 3-4 bartenders, so if we upgrade with 1 the myth would say the service wouldn’t be so good from the other 2-3 but that hasn’t been our experience.
