I wish I had a quality answer for ya, but I don't.

This was the first time ever I've had my request denied, so there was some surprise and disappointment . . . but the overall price/savings was really good, so I simply accept it as "their rules". 😉

.

Exactly the same here.  Just received a denial for our 12/19/21 cruise.  We've always been approved in the past, regardless of what type of rate/discount we booked.  Like almost everything else these days, blame it on the COVID I guess.  😢  Going forward, our shareholder benefit may become a moot point for us personally as we always book discounted rates.  I mean, when are they NOT having a sale?  Rhetorical of course.  Oh well.

Well, I think I'll submit my request for my 12/4 cruise and see what happens... This one isn't one of the deep discounts that I have in the future, this one is a result of the multiple cancellation ordeal.  I'll report back what happens, but I'm not overly encouraged reading the responses here.  Won't ruin my excitement to finally cruise again.

I have been a Carnival shareholder for many years, only to get my onboard credit. We recently took a cruise on the Carnival Vista out of Galveston. I sent in the required proof plus brought along a copy to show to guest services onboard.  We were refused the $100 credit for the first time ever. Very unhappy and disappointed  with Carnival.

Did they give you a reason why it was denied?

It seems to be a trend. We also just had our shareholder OBC denied because we booked under a VIFP rate. It's never been denied before although we almost always have booked during a promotion. We've been cruising with Carnival for over 30 years and hold more than the minimum required stock. Not that it will do any good, but I immediately sent a reply back to Guest Relations with my displeasure and to tell them this was no way to bring back good customers when times are tough for the cruise lines. I hope everyone who is denied will follow up to let them know you are unhappy with their current position on when the OBC is applied.

“Employees, travel agents cruising at travel agent rates, tour conductors or anyone cruising on a reduced-rate or complimentary basis are excluded from this offer. ”

I don’t understand why this is a surprise to anyone. Carnival has been generous in the past with some reduced rates but it clearly states on this on Carnival’s faq for shareholders.

I think the confusion comes from identifying just what constitutes a "reduced rate". In September we cruised on the Mardi Gras booked on the VIFP rate (using future cruise credits from a cancelled cruise) and the shareholder OBC was approved. For our cruise next week on the Magic we also booked under the VIFP rate (and paid the fare that was quoted to us on the website and by our PVP) and the shareholder credit was denied. From now on do we have to book at the highest rate they publish, which I doubt anyone ever pays since there is always some promotion going, to receive the shareholder credit? I can understand not giving the OBC for a complimentary or nearly free cruise, but when we pay the rate for being a past customer I don't agree with their denying the credit.

Based on the responses to this thread, I've got zero reason to hope my request (submitted Sunday night)  for shareholder OBC on my next cruise will be granted.   I booked two weeks out. That's probably strike one because of  turn-around time.  More importantly,  my booking rate.  I don't know what kind of special offer it was. I was just goofing around on the Carnival website and found a 7-night cruise leaving from a port an hour from my house for $100 a person.  Even with the $50 upgrade to a better category,  that's a sweet, sweet deal for which I will gladly give up shareholder's OBC.   I'll let everyone know if by some weird luck I get the OBC anyway.

Last week we cruised on the Panorama, booked it last minute and had no problem getting our $100 shareholder benefit applied.

We only paid $129 each for that 7-day cruise.

It seems that CCL's consistency with the shareholder OBC is, well.......not consistent. Just my observation.  Glad you were approved though! 🙂

I just got off the 10/24 Pride cruise three days ago and have another offer for free balcony so I booked the Pride again for 11/28.  I was approved for the $100 shareholder obc in early October for the 10/24 cruise and it wasn't reversed.  I'll share what response I get here for the 11/28 cruise, probably in five to seven days (that's how long the last two approvals in Sept. and Oct. took).

Was approved a few days for our 11/13 cruise.  Not sure what the rate was we booked but it was a reduced fare of some sort I have no doubt.  Does anyone ever book a full price fare?  If all reduced rates are eliminated then the benefit is a moot point.

Just like last time, I got an immediate reply from Carnival indicating they received my request and giving me an estimate of when I'll get approved.  Last cruise it took about a week.

I booked under the VIFP bargain basement pricing ($25/person inside) and was approved for shareholder OBC

Sounds like it depends on who reads the request on the other end at CCL.

To give Carnival credit where it is due, I think that in the past and under normal circumstances, Carnival (individual cruise lines and as a group) have been very generous in applying the shareholder obc. If they are now following their own t & c to the letter, I do not blame them because these are anything BUT normal times for ALL cruiselines.

Was it Royal Caribbean who only just yesterday announced a $1.7 BILLION loss!!! Indeed trying times they ARE.

Yes, but we have also been receiving the shareholder OBC for some time, until now.  Our 2022 cruises were also approved, but our December 2021 was denied.  And looking at other posts, it just seems like it depends on who receives/processes the requests at CCL.  If they're going to apply the rules, they should be across the board.

I agree, the rules have been in place for years and people are now complaining because many bought the stock blindly wanting the OBC and now are unable to claim it.

They are shareholders aka owners of CCL. It's their right to voice their displeasure at management.

To an extent I will agree with you, but to whine and complain about a rule that is voted on EVERY year by the board is asinine.  Maybe they should be taking their unhappiness up with the BoD.

Reporting back - my request was approved this evening (took about a week).  I only requested for my 12/4 cruise but they also added the OBC to my 4/16/22 as well which totally surprised me.

There have been quite a few threads on this. OP didnt you post on the other thread you had 300 shares? I had over 10k shares. 300 actually isnt much to think you should get obc because it's over 100 shares. It doesnt matter imo how many you have.

Thos very cheap special vipf and casino offers are discounted and it says discounted cruises dont get obc. Someone who had a casino offer with 1000k of obc was saying he didnt get the obc. Lol.

At least we know you don't get obc if you have stock and take one of those special discounted offers some of us arent even getting. Be happy you got a very cheap rate?
