One Good Reason To Park at the Port for a Celebrity Ship

The latest news coming from New Orleans and a returning ship with covid outbreak, is that the CDC is allowing positive cases that parked their personal vehicles at the port to be able to drive home and self quarantine. "“We are testing all individuals on Norwegian Breakaway prior to disembarkation, as well as providing post-exposure and quarantine public health guidance by the (U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention),” the company's statement said. “Any guests who have tested positive for COVID-19 will travel by personal vehicle to their personal residence or self-isolate in accommodations provided by the company.”

  Now is still not the time to park off site, unless CDC allows one to take the provided shuttle.

Covid or not, one good reason is not waiting for the off site parking shuttle.

All good advice if you live within reasonable driving distance of the port.  For us it is a full 2 day drive.

I was referring to ones nearest port. For example Gainesville Texas to the Port at New Orleans is 8hr 24minutes. Met couple in Retreat Lounge that parked at Port Everglades Terminal Parking Garage that drove down from the Carolinas, made plans to stay in Vero Beach, Fl on way back home.

Of course, if you didn't park at the port NCL is providing accommodation presumably in New Orleans. Not a bad place to self isolate in a hotel. Great restaurants that deliver. Great Jazz on the radio.

Now, for Florida  disembarkments  I totally agree with you. 😉

Excellent point. I naively assumed the shuttle pick-up, even 1 mile away, would be instantaneous when I called, like a car service. One learns so much from more experienced travelers who are kind enough to take the time and post. Thank you.

To my knowledge, Celebrity is not requiring masks on any sailings from North America...which is what we were talking about, parking in North America.  🙂

 

Now I suppose protocol could have changed on the masking recently, but I hope not.  As I have a cruise booked in March...the one the Wife and I took in August was wonderful.

Yup, we parked near Terminal 25 for our thanksgiving Apex cruise. we’d used off-site prior and even stayed at a hotel that had parking for the cruise time, and both times, it was a pain. Not a very long wait, but both shuttles were for multiple lots/hotels and we sat on that thing for 30+min ‘touring’ Fort Lauderdale around the port……I realize it was a tour and ‘free’, but……

You completely nailed my issue with "off site" parking.....the dreaded shuttle rides....

We always grab a cab to off site parking.   It’s much better than waiting for a shuttle.

Sure, but in the context of this situation - not possible. If someone tests positive, public transport is not allowed. Special transport will be provided to your car.

plus throw in 2 cab rides, and any savings is probably about a wash.

They were picked up at that point, and each group was taken to their car.

 

If you are looking for written confirmation, it is in the CSO but rather tedious to find.

Thank you. It stands to reason. The CDC would not let a positive vaccinated  passenger walk across the street to the parking garage for fear of spreading the contagion.

Or ride in a shuttle, cab, Uber - any public conveyance that would expose the driver or others outside their traveling party.

In a related matter. Does anyone know if Parking Garage G at the Port of Miami open ?
