I really find all these vlogers to be E-quivalent to a new national inquirer. All are supported by advertising and competing against each other for viewers. Lots of big headlines and drama.

Someone would be in isolation if they had potentially been exposed. It doesn't mean they have anything, but sure leads to a lot of gossip.

While I don't disagree with you on the likely nasty hygiene of many people STILL after almost 2 years of this pandemic, we know with certainty that Covid is airborne and really doesn't transmit through surface contamination. Touching utensils, etc doesn't really change anything regarding Covid but still allows for flu/noro/etc so regular precautions from before the pandemic should be applied now as well as Covid precautions. Masking and distancing as best as possible IS far more useful (despite contrarians). Our family is now pretty accustomed to using sanitizer whenever we cannot wash our hands when entering a restaurant, after sitting down/prior to eating, and once complete with food. Almost religiously at this point. Will be no different on our upcoming Carnival Miracle cruise. So far, knock on wood, we've been as healthy as ever since the start of the pandemic (minimal colds/flus/GI issues). Just wash up/sanitize often, don't touch your nose/mouth, and you should be good.

Yes, "fomite" COVID transmission -- i.e., through surface contact ONLY -- is regarded as extremely rare by the CDC.  Specifically, only a 1 in 10,000 chance:

https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/more/science-and-research/surface-transmission.html

So, much of the COVID-related panic over sanitizing surfaces, obtaining cleaning supplies, self-served buffets on cruises, etc., turns out to be effectively unnecessary.   But it's still good practice to maintain routine cleaning protocols for other diseases as well as COVID.

It's all about the likes, views, subs and "support my Patreon," baby!

Now I just tune them all out.  Screaming for attention on YouTube or other platforms to get views?  Posting a false thumbnail or an overly dramatic video title?   Get thee hence!

Most sailings on the CDC color status guide show green, meaning no reported Covid cases:

Are you suggesting that is inaccurate, and these ship did have cases, and the cruise line is covering it up? (Not that such an idea is out of the question)

Tons of the ships are yellow and a few being turned away from ports.

Well, Earthworm Jim did post that three days ago.  In this environment, it was likely true at the time he posted it, and not now.

3 days ago they were yellow . That's when I canceled after checking.

most of them are yellow today. but they usually go back to green pretty fast. As long as CDC has no problem with it and the ships are still sailing im not worried.  Again as was stated by @firefly333 it aint going away soon.....

Off for the Holidays and reading all over the boards and beyond. I've noticed that the problems with covid positive test are definitely on the increase. From getting hotel rooms to the CruiseLine's not following through with covid related promises. To spending time in holding areas with no offer of food or drink. Waiting on responses of what to do. Just a ton of headache if you test positive.

Me, just not booking anything till this covid soap calms down. if you do good luck 😲

We've been on two cruises since they started back up.  In September we were on Miracle, which was 100% vaccinated, with zero waivers.  Should be perfectly safe, right?  At least 10 people in our FB group tested positive within 2 days of leaving the ship.  Our group only represented about 25% of the guests onboard.

This past Monday we got back from a 4 day cruise on Breeze.  We felt fine when we got off the ship.  We had a 4 hour drive to get home.  By the time we got home, we were both exhausted and went straight to bed for several hours.  On Tuesday we both woke up with a sore throat and cough.  We both assumed we had a sinus infection, so hubby made a Dr appt for Wednesday.  As a precaution, they tested him for covid.  He tested positive.  I did a home test this morning and also tested positive.  Our FB group has had about 50 people test positive so far after getting off the ship.  My sore throat is pretty much gone already, and our symptoms have been pretty consistant with a bad cold plus a lot of fatigue the first few days.  I did email Carnival about both of us testing positive.  If you are worried about getting covid, stay home.  This Omicron varient is spreading like wildfire.  If you do choose to cruise, get the booster shot, buy yourself some kn95 masks and avoid any high touch surfaces on the ship.  Every time I walked past a hand sanetizer station, I grabbed some.  We wore masks every time we left our cabin.

I've heard the same about this happening on the 6 day Freedom cruise last week.  Then there was this article about the outbreaks on the current 8 day one. Seems like maybe the crew is mostly positive now but its still the 2nd cruise in a row where there is an "outbreak".  I'm sure there will be more people who didn't test on board (to avoid the $400 fee) or don't feel symptoms till they get home too

I think everyone has been surprised how fast this new variant spreads. Sorry to hear you and your hubby caught it. So many getting it, I can see how it will peak fast and burn itself out but until then chances of catching it are high.

My mom only left the house to go to kroger for a booster and got sick but wasnt tested. She thinks a cold and isolated. But then she rarely leaves the house. I cant figure out how she got sick staying home 99.9%.

Doesnt matter covid is everywhere. Might as well cruise. No place is safe. Let's hope this Burns out by the end of January as predicted.

Lol I've been reading and still have not seen one pax say they were billed $400... just a rumor until someone confirms. .. though that is the thread title .. asking if its true. If it was true someone would have posted it's true... I vote not true. Unless someone confirms let's not assume it's true. No basis.

As far as freedom one network says carnival wouldnt say how many positives onboard and another says americans stranded lol. Let's not add to rumors.

I vote not true as well.  I think Dee of Parodee YouTube got sick on MG and was tested, quarantined, etc., and she said no charge for anything.

Charging for a Covid test on board would be ridiculous, as not many would want to incur the cost if they had a sore throat or sniffles.

The medical center wants people to STAY in their cabin and they come to you to test.

I went on the 3 day Conquest December 17th. It was a Friday to Monday sailing. By Tuesday, many had tested positive at home. A bunch more Wednesday and Thursday. Including myself. This is my first day up again. I think I got it on the plane going next to a lady who I suspected was looking under the weather. The onset of symptoms line up with that also(4 days)

The staff was definitely telling people to wear masks and even gave them to a few people who said they didn't have one on them. Smoking was prohibited even in the Casino. Side bar: I was shocked how refreshing the air was in there.

This past week, 18 - 24 Dec, onboard Panorama, they shut down smoking in the Casino as well, that was a nice touch. I remember back in the day when people smoked in the MDR.

Well 3 cruises on Panorama, not sick nor did I see anyone else sick.
