smeck Posted December 24, 2021 #1 Share Posted December 24, 2021 I was curious if the Production shows have been scaled back IE Aquatheater, and main production shows? I would cancel if that's the case we wouldn't be getting our moneys worth without a price reduction.

Interesting that you associate shows with getting your money's worth on a cruise.

I know some cruises have had show cancellations, but that is depending on the ship and health of performers on those particular sailings. As far as I know shows are normal other than making and where you sit based on vaccinations. Cancellations can happen, but you likely won’t know before leaving on your cruise. That happened before Covid too with ice shows and aqua theater getting canceled due to rough weather here and there.

I don’t care so much, but I recognize many do. People spend a lot on similar types of shows when they go to places like Vegas. For some, it is a big part of their vacation. I’m surprised this is surprising.

Sounds like op wants a discount if they don't get the shows they expect. Shows can and have been cancelled or changed for any variety of reasons over the years, weather, motion, illness, injury. They spend money on shows to provide entertainment and give people options on top of the casino and other venues, not as the sole focus of the cruise. cruisegirl1 Posted December 24, 2021 #6 Share Posted December 24, 2021 (edited) Didn’t Harmony used to have “Columbus the musical” show. I was on the December 5 sailing and noticed it was not being presented. Also they had a second ice and diving show. A shorter more casual show with no reservations needed. I don’t remember the name of the diving show but it had some beach party theme, and the ice show was something like iskate or skate 2.0. I don’t recall seeing supplemental diving or Ice shows also on December 5 cruise. We had Grease, ice show, diving show, comedy show, headliner shows, (two different ones) Plus there was live music all around the ship. Lots of wonderful entertainment. enjoy. m Edit to add-there is no way to know what changes could be made if entertainment staff become ill. We are sailing Harmony on January 2 and January 9, and I can try to come back and update. m Edited December 24, 2021 by cruisegirl1

I think each person can define their own money’s worth formula. For many that includes shows. That is why Royal spend a fortune developing an aqua theatre and buying rights to Cats as an example. People are paying for the shoes too so for money they want that aspect included. Seems reasonable to me even if I don’t care about the shows so much. jalves Posted December 24, 2021 #8 Share Posted December 24, 2021 Wondering what the money value of a show would be. $10? $100? How much of a price reduction would be appropriate?

Equivalent on land is probably close to $100 or maybe even more. But everyone will about the shows and activities in a different way. I value the flowrider a lot, but most probably don’t at all. Royal will never refund for missing shows. The cruise is one big package. Not everything is gonna work perfectly on every cruise.

We saw the show at Aqua Theater (1st night), Ice show (2nd night) & Grease (6th day) and all the headline shows. They cancelled some shows at Aqua Theater due to strong wind and wave but made it up later. I never based my cruise on just shows ONLY there are things on the ship would worth my time and money. Good luck. ps. On Oasis a few year back they tried the water show several time (rescheduled) but technical problem, sea etc. we did not get to see a full show but we had good time on that ship too. Another_Critic Posted December 24, 2021 #11 Share Posted December 24, 2021 (edited) 1/16 is 3+ weeks away. There is no guarantee which shows will be performed tonight, tomorrow, or next week and definitely not in 3+ weeks. In all honesty, if you are concerned about missing shows, you should cancel now. Even in the best of times (pre-Covid), shows were canceled due to weather (rough seas) among other reasons. smeck Posted December 24, 2021 Author #12 Share Posted December 24, 2021 Please don’t tell me how to value my vacation. We pay the premium price for an Oasis class ship to experience the entertainment it offers.

The old show was done the previous week. The other Ice show was canceled the week you were on because 3 skaters were injured. We saw one of them go down during I-skate the previous week. He finished the show but was obviously in pain. Overall, they did a good job in filling in the entertainment schedule.

golfer08 Posted December 25, 2021 #16 Share Posted December 25, 2021 Sailed Harmony 12/5-12/12. Fantastic ship, great crew, good food. Attended all shows and productions as all were presented as scheduled. Not sure about the piano bar. The shows and productions were excellent. In fact, attended Grease twice because of seats available at the last one. I too booked Harmoney mostly because RCI is known for its ships and Broadway shows. I too might have cancelled had RCI announced in advance that the shows were not going to be presented. There is no guarantee for the next cruise. CC participants should avoid being critical of other CC members for the criteria they use to select ships and cruises. To each his own.

The point I was trying to make is that your paying for a premium product on the Oasis class ships, if the product isn’t being delivered why pay the premium price? Would you pay for a hamburger at steak Prices simply because their out of steaks?

rockmom Posted December 26, 2021 #22 Share Posted December 26, 2021 (edited) I don't think a past sailing will be any indication of what might happen on the next sailing. It will all be dependent on if crew and passengers start testing positive in addition to ports shutting their doors to cruise ships making a stop. I think you have to go into it hoping for the best, but prepared for what some are going through now which is no port stops, very little entertainment.
