clover18 Posted December 26, 2021 #1 Share Posted December 26, 2021 As in the movies (with the exception of the Godfather part two) The sequel rarely lives up to the original. If you are just joining us, we were on December 18 sailing of Odyssey of the seas and the ship had been turned away at the ports of Aruba and Curaçao. This resulted in the seven day cruise at sea. We made the best of the situation in spite of a number of Covid cases among crew and passengers, the staff of the ship did their utmost to make it pleasurable for everyone. The Procedures for “consecutive passengers” was relatively painless. We had to wait in the music hall for a couple hours, but then they walked us off the ship, turned us around, and walked us back on again. If you were staying in the same cabin you just kept all your things where they were, if you were changing cabins, which was our case, you left your bags packed in your room and your cabin steward will move them to your new room. The advantage of the back to back was that we were able to immediately head to the nearest restaurant to make dining reservations for the week, which went off without any problems. We then made reservations for Ifly for two days this week. And then because nobody else was really on board yet my husband and daughter did the bouncy trampolines with harnesses. We also had time to buy our beverage package for the week as well as fix any glitches in our Voom. We had a very quiet lunch at Windjammer as no one else had boarded yet except for return cruisers. So that was nice. now just sitting on the pool deck waiting for them to open up our new room so we can go organize ourselves. I’m looking at the new people coming on board like deer in headlights and I’m just hoping to heaven that we don’t have the same situation as we had last week. Keeping an open mind and an open heart and looking forward to another relaxing week with the family. Cheers! 20

D4 Posted December 26, 2021 #4 Share Posted December 26, 2021 B2B question: Did you have to stay out of your cabin until a certain time while they did deep cleaning? I hope this cruise is better for you.

We got tested Saturday morning. All we did today was walk off past the customs officers and then walk right back on again. With a ship’s escort of course.

chiguypaul Posted December 26, 2021 #11 Share Posted December 26, 2021 I’m on the sailing now. I’ll provide updates as well. Heard from multiple crew we have about 3300 passengers. “Feels” like less. Please correct me if you hear different.

clover18 Posted December 27, 2021 Author #13 Share Posted December 27, 2021 Well frens. We had a good day settling back in. Despite having had to change rooms we love where we ended up. Note to others: category J1 only has one bathroom. Tons of walking around space and a double balcony. But if you have a family of three you’ll be sad to have to share a bathroom. At least J3 and J4 have split baths with two toilets. Our room is massive with a ton of wasted space. A long corridor with absolutely no extra storage except to put suitcases. Drawer space is limited. We had much more storage in a Regular balcony room. oh well. Cest la vie. It’s a beautiful night with stars and we will get off at coco cay tomorrow. goodnight and happy trails….
chiguypaul Posted December 27, 2021 #14 Share Posted December 27, 2021 Some quick takes so far. I thought checkin was the worst process in all of my 15 cruises. Very unorganized. People cutting in line in multiple places. All the production shows are down except for the Book. I expected this so my expectations are in check but had I not been aware of last week’s situation would have been very disappointed. I earlier posted they were working on alternative talent options and it turns out that is not correct. I can definitely tell the difference with the reduced passenger load from all of those that canceled. Lots of little things off that I notice as a Diamond member compared to other cruises but so far all is well and having fun.

Td6462 Posted December 27, 2021 #18 Share Posted December 27, 2021 They just offloaded 69 persons (appear to be crew) on to VOS. She was parked at Coco this morning. OOS is coming in.

jonj Posted December 27, 2021 #22 Share Posted December 27, 2021 I wish they would test at the port before boarding instead of in advance. Yes some people may still test positive after they board but they would catch anyone who is lying on their health form. I can't believe that person boarded knowing she was sick.
Rare crewsweeper Posted December 27, 2021 #23 Share Posted December 27, 2021 In the pictures, I see the man wearing a neck covering and holding a blue "hospital" mask. Neither of these are protective from even getting a common cold. Sorry his cruise was spent inside his cabin. Strange his fiancee wasn't tested at same time. Rare FionaMG Posted December 27, 2021 #25 Share Posted December 27, 2021 12 minutes ago, jonj said: I wish they would test at the port before boarding instead of in advance. This was required on our Harmony cruise out of Barcelona. I think (but not entirely sure) this was mandated by the Spanish government and, much as I hated it because of the anxiety of possibly testing positive with the ship right there, it made perfect sense to me to do it that way. Surely that's the best way to keep the risk of an infected person boarding to an absolute minimum? We also chose to get tested before leaving home to limit the risk of testing positive at the port.
