We started with 1 positive case in our room and ended with 4 - we fell like dominoes. The health care on board was surprisingly comprehensive- blood work, chest x ray, vitals. We had check ins with both doctors and nurses. We were given meds to treat symptoms. They closed off the hallways as they escorted each of us down, we used the service elevator, there is an entire section of the ship deemed the red zone for isolation and medical care. We ended up in 2 ocean view rooms a few doors down from one another. Guest services designated one person to check in on us and manage the financials and such. They did the best they could with the circumstances they were given. My wife was down there the longest - 4 days - she was also the sickest and received the most care. The biggest hiccup was how long room service took on several occasions (once in the red zone - when we were up in our regular room in quarantine it was efficient) at first we were like - room service!!!! By the end the whole family never wanted to order room service again 😉 They provided private transportation to the lot we parked in as well. Feel free to ask any questions. You mentioned that a person was assigned to you to take care of the financials...What does that mean? Thank you for sharing your experience. Paper surgical masks, N95s? I'm not asking these questions to place blame, rather to assess risk. Do you think your wife just showed symptoms first and you all were exposed at the same time? According to a friend of mine who is currently working on Freedom, almost every RCI cruise since last Summer has had someone test positive during the cruise. Most of the cruises involve only a few people testing positive, but there have been larger breakouts on multiple ships, which the media loves to jump all over how dangerous cruise ships are right now. I would rather be confined in COVID row with an assured return to the US within a few days than kicked off the ship in who knows what country and having to deal with their protocols just to get back into the US.
