Bringing 1 yo on Carnival Vista. Suggestions...

We are doing a family cruise on the Vista 2/12 and our 13 mo old grand-daughter will be sailing with us. Was curious if anyone has used Carnivals cribs? We have requested one but had a couple of questions..  Do they supply the sheets or do they need to bring a set with them? and how are the mattresses? My daughter is trying to decide whether to just bring her pack or not. They are  also worried about sleeping in the same room and waking her with the lights etc but I have read that some have used a shower curtain to help block the lights. Has anyone done this? Any suggestions...

Thanks!

The more detailed response would be have you read all the policy and procedures regarding bringing unvaccinated guests on a cruise, including asking for an exemption and rules for getting off the ship 🙂

Real constructive. So some people will not cruise without their young kids (us being one of them). We brought our 2 year old on the Magic in Sept and we are going back with him next month (hes 3 now). I know they will provide a pack n play. If you guys bring magnets you can hang a sheet. We were going to bring one but he would have just torn it down. One plus is that your 13 mo old will not have to get tested like ours did. There were a couple families with 1 yr olds that we befriended on our cruise. They all seemed to be having fun. Our little guy had an absolute blast and the room steward was his best friend the entire week. Dont listen to anyone but your family, especially people on here. Do the research, weigh the options and do whats best for your family. Have fun 🙂

Exactly what I was thinking lol. It won't be a good time. I love my kids with all my heart and we travel as a family but I couldn't do it. Three is the earliest, four even better, and that is during normal times. We didn't vacation much when our kids were very young as it's simply too inconvenient. Once children are potty trained (reliably) and can walk decent distances without needing to be pushed in a stroller all the time, then it was time to cruise for us. Plus with covid, no way. Reminds me of the folks who ask about bringing very young kids to Vegas. For what? LOL. Disneyland/Disney World or kid/family focused trip is a better fit. Everyone is different though, different strokes for different folks.

We have four kids, and each of them have been on a cruise with us when they were very young.  My youngest are twin girls, and we had them on their first cruise at 16 months. We had two carnival cribs in the room and it worked fine.  Used the mattress and sheets provided by carnival, but we brought their blankets etc.. to put in with them.  Also brought a small sound machine for some white noise in the room. Did not bother with trying to put anything up to block light, they would just pull that down.

Yes, cruising with little ones is a completely different experience, and we remind ourselves of that. But oh so much fun, and the memories we have are fantastic.  We have never been afraid of traveling with them young.

I thought ALL passengers must be vaxed?!  Obviously too young for that.  Having raised 3 children and having taken them on multiple cruises, after reaching the age to enjoy...  Not even going to ask about 13 months??!  Doesn't make sense to me, but to each their own.

We had a great time last month with our 16 month old and three older kids.  The crib is as described and yes, there are covid related policies that limit what there is to do even further for that age.  That said we had lots of great family time and our littlest and the dining room staff had a blast with each other.

Yes, they will supply the travel type pack and play, I would bring my own sheets.  I think also you will want to bring a blow up baby tub type thing.  Not only for bathing but hopefully you can find an out of the way spot (if you dont have a balcony or suite cabin) on deck to set up between a couple of deck chairs for splashing around.  The diaper thing on a cruise ship and them being restricted from water areas if not potty trained is probably a much bigger issue than the crib.

She clearly stated she has a cruise booked and people tell her no. That’s not what she was asking.she was asking for help. Look at the family board or google. I would help but my babies have fur. . Do you have a balcony? That’s good for letting baby nap but not having to stay super quiet

Just use the Carnival crib, kids close to two will be too long for it but a 1 year old will be fine. It is a mini crib so use the sheets they give you, it will be hard to find something that fits unless you already have a mini crib. Also bring some night lights to avoid needing to use the main lights while L.O. is sleeping.

My advice - get a balcony room so the baby can have quiet time to fall asleep, its better than hiding in the bathroom or hanging a sheet.

Bring an small inflatable pool to use in the shower, there are no tubs unless you are in a large OV that a few of the ships have, or a suite.

The inflatable pool is the best idea.  We also brought one of those for our young ones to sit, play, and splash around in when we were out on the Lido deck.

I don't even see where you could put a kiddie pool on the lido deck without it being in everyone's way.

Oh wow this thread brings back lots of memories. My son was 14 months old on his first cruise. You are already doing my #1 suggestion: bring family to help! I'm sure your daughter will appreciate having grandparents that can help and give her some adult time every now and then. I know we did!

So interesting that this topic came up - my granddaughter is 16 months old now.  My sister thought a September cruise to celebrate my daughter's birthday would be a great idea.  My daughter (the mother of said grandchild) is like - uh, no way!! She would be a couple weeks shy of 2 years old at time of cruise.  Unfortunately, my sister already booked the cruise as a "surprise" using one of our casino deals, so looks like we are going to lose the deposits on both cabins.  I'm hoping perhaps we can maybe transfer deposits to another of our casino offers, but not holding out much hope.  We paid a total of $600 for deposits on both cabins (suites no less) but maybe a great lesson for my sister.

I absolutely adore my granddaughter but I agree with Mom - she's just too young to appreciate it and the rest of us (5 adults) would not be able to enjoy it.

I'm not sure how busy you think the Lido Deck Pool is.. but.. there is probably not enough room for that.

I'm sure many would be annoyed if you are taking up so much space with a little kiddie pool.

Have you seen how people react when they don't get their preferred deck chair?

Not to mention, what happens to the water when you are done with the kiddie pool?  Do you put it back into the pool??  Doesn't that really defeat the purpose of "no un-potty-trained kids in the water?"

Dont bring a kiddie pool, bring inflatable baby tub (this is why I suggested the blowup bath in earlier post) much smaller than actual pool.

You can use it to bath the baby (put on shower floor with water in it for bath tub use).  We also would use it on our balcony with a little water in it for our son to splash around and play.  He enjoyed it and got his water time in being that he was still in diapers in our early cruising days. We would do this after lunch right before nap time and it would tire him out for a good 2 hr nap (good reading and glass of wine time on balcony for me while he napped).

There was a lady who was cruising with a very small child that got very upset when she was notified that her kid couldn't get into the water, even with a swim diaper, since they were not potty trained (per the rules). She had to be asked several times to remove her kid and was not a happy cruiser. Then she broke out a small inflatable pool and was again told it was against the rules and even more upset and stormed off. People don't like rules they don't agree with. I don't see that changing anytime soon. Cruise ship decks are already a tight fit, folks blocking off areas only makes them smaller. Not much for a small child to do on a ship, a lot of stairs and tight corridors make strollers impracticable as well. Unfavorable conditions to be sure.
