NCL Breakaway out of Port of New Orleans Hotel Recommendations

My lovely bride and I are cruising on December 4, 2022 on the NCL Breakaway.  This is very exciting because this Cruise will be the finals of all of the NCL Slot Winners.  My wife, who does not gamble at all, won the recent NCL Joy Slot Tournament.  She is in the finals for this ship on this week.  To make this situation even better, we can drive to New Orleans in 6 hours.

Can someone whom has stayed in New Orleans for the night before a cruise give me some recommendations.  Also parking recommendations.  We did this cruise once and stayed in the Holiday Inn by the Dome with 8 days parking.  This time, I thought I would ask from those that had really great experiences.  I don't mind parking at the port and staying at a hotel away from the port.

I hope that makes sense.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thank you.

Cruise well.

loews, within walking distance of the cruise ship terminal.

you can even see the ships from some rooms! the rooms are luxurious; the hotel provides great service.

a step or two down in class is the hilton, also walkable from the cruise ship terminal. you can see the riverfront and the ships from some rooms there, too. connected to the riverwalk shopping center. even if you don't stay there, i recommend eating there. on the ground level is a restaurant called drago's which is a hotel restaurant, sorta kinda, but it's really an independently run  NOLA institution. highly recommended.

across the street is harrah's. if you have ever dropped any coin in any caesars entertainment casino, it's likely you will have a free or discounted room waiting for you at harrah's. you can see the cruise ships from some rooms here, too. the hotel is in a separate building than the casino, although there is an underground walkway that connects them. there's a good branch of ruth's chris steakhouse in harrah's hotel. the only problem with harrah's is that the hotel is poorly run and maintained. even the suites are lackluster. but if you're just looking for a place to crash and looking for an affordable rate, it might fit the bill.

most hotels in this area - including loews and the hilton - offer cruise parking deals. stay with them for one night and they will usually give you a discounted room, plus an attractive rate on parking.  (harrah's may even offer free parking, depending on tier status.)

You might find this useful.

As  you know we cancelled our NOLA cruise.  We had booked the Hilton Riverside.  From what I hear the recommendation for Dragos is spot on.  We were looking forward to the oysters.

I would look at lowes as well.  Here's a link

My current favorite is the Mercantile.  Built in an old warehouse, walking distance to the port, all suite hotel (sorry, don't know about the parking). Great staff, standard free continental breakfast. I could see the Carnival ship from my room but not the Getaway.  Right down the street from Harrah's, close to the Quarter without being in the Quarter.  Love the grilled oysters at Dragos and also enjoy Deanies.  If you want an old classic, the Pontchartrain Hotel in the Garden District is wonderful.  But for that one you would park at the port.

We have stayed at the Drury Inn twice when we have cruised from New Orleans .

We flew in so we did not have a car to park so you would most likely have to park at the port.

We really enjoyed our stay there.  We found it to be an easy walk (some at the most 5 to 6 blocks) to  the waterfront, Harrah's, the Riverwalk Mall, Canal and Bourbon Streets.  Lots of restaurants and attractions in the area to choose from.

The people at the front desk at the time we stayed were great to deal with.  There was a great breakfast and a free snack time available every evening which included many hot selections.  Not gourmet food but was nice to have the option.

We have stayed at Harrah's beautiful hotel pre and post cruise numerous times.  If you have any status with Caesar's casinos, you might get a good deal (or comped!).   We love this location and always walk with our rolling luggage to the cruise terminal.  (And we have been retired for a few years)

Can you recommend places to eat close by Harrah's? Also is there a drug store close by you can walk to? I will staying there a few nights in April before and after my cruise.

summerstravel: harrah's is the hotel, and the casino is just across the street. there are loads of restaurants inthe casino, caveat: the last time we were there  we had our 13 year old grandson, and were told no one under18 could enter the casino which meant we couldnt bring  him in to eat (which i thought was completely ridiculous.

there is also a very nice sushi bar a few blocks away.

harrah's had a great concierge and he gave us tips as to where to go and eat. we stayed for 3 days prior to the sailing and overnight after the cruise, it also isnt very far from the airport, but you do need to grab a cab. there are also many restaurants at the riverside.

We cruised from NOLA in December.  We enjoyed eating at Gordon Biersch and Grand Isle.  Both are very close to Harrah's and you can  find out more about them if you look at Harrah's website under dining.   We also had a good meal at the SteakHouse inside the casino.

There are two shopping malls that are close.  On Canal street a block or so from the casino there is shopping mall.  There is also the Riverwalk Outlet mall with a lot of venues including a Cafe du Monde.  The Riverwalk mall runs from the Hilton to the cruise terminal.  All very close.  You can also ride on the streetcar system to get to several other areas.  It's fun and easy to ride.

Yes, the concierge at the hotel is a great guy and very  helpful.  He took great care of us😊

Make sure and ask for one of the easy to follow walking maps for NOLA.  There is usually a stack of them at the hotel desk plus in the casino at the Total Rewards booth.

This sounds great thank you. You would think they would let minors at least come in to eat the restaurants.  I will be spending 2 nights before cruise and 1 night after.

Thanks for sharing I plan on visiting Cafe du Monde.  I also plan on exploring the Riverwalk mall area and I am also thinking of visiting the WW2 museum.  So many fun things to do I can't wait.

I can recommend that!  The USS Tang Experience (which is an extra cost) is well worth the money and will provide you with some thought provoking, sobering moments.

The Marriott also is the location NCL has been using for Covid testing.  With their recent policy change regarding pre-cruise testing, that may not be so important as it has been, but the Marriott does have the advantage of being close to the pier.  Another good option is the Hilton Riverside.  It is connected to the Riverfront Mall, so you can walk from your hotel room to the cruise terminal arrivals hall without ever going outside.  You will be walking through the mall, so there are plenty of places to window shop and lots of restaurants and bars along the way.

Plenty of CVS and Walgreens around.  For certain, there is one of each on Canal Street.  A very quick walk from Harrahs.

if you cross the street from the hotel into the casino, there are loads of places to eat in there. if youre staying in harrah's in the past they had a concierge who recommended to us a great sushi bar just a few blocks away. there are also loads to restaurants within walking distance. dont worry, you wont go hungry. it's been a few years since we sailed from there, but harrah's is across the street from the shopping center. there are loads of places to eat there also. if you go (and im not sure if the place is still there) in the center itself is a shop that sells the most amazing beignets. (im sure that's misspelled  but they're made fresh and absolutely decadent!

The above question is on where to eat in New Orleans, LA.  This town has some of the best Restaurants anywhere. My favorite place is an Italian restaurant called, Irene's.  I have never had a bad meal there and it is reasonably priced for the area.

I am also cruising on the NCL Breakaway out of New Orleans, December 4, 2022.  We are staying at the Renaissance by Marriott off Canal Street which is their boutique hotel. For anyone interested, book your car parking at the port early.

This year, we are going to choose a different restaurant.  This year it is going to be seafood.  I will report back on the selection.  I hope everyone is excited about what every cruise you are booked on.

Cruise well everyone and enjoy every moment.
