Thanks for the responses.  We are Crystal refugees and trying to familiarise ourselves with the different options.  How is the entertainment - day and night - on Azamara.  I understand the white nights but what about the remainder of the cruise especially on sea days.

See Azamara's web for some information:

https://www.azamara.com/life-onboard/entertainment-activities  (scroll down, look at each ship).

The cabaret entertainers have several different themes for the shows at sea (some also when the ship gets underway early enough).  The musicians get together in various combinations to play everything from classic rock to classical.  Trivia contests abound.  Lectures on various subjects when not in port.  And a good library.

Also painting classes, ballroom dancing lessons, activities such as darts, table tennis etc.

Here’s a copy of a typical sea day programme (note this is from 2019, so well before the pandemic, when the ship was full).78EBE632-708B-4721-9B41-2F4655B3222D.thumb.jpeg.b0769044651a42ae6d44eb05c4ccaf35.jpeg

I don’t see any speakers, did I miss them?

Speakers have in recent years been a weak point on Azamara compared to other lines. Hope they improve when they return to full service

We are on a TA next month with 8 sea days, hopefully there will be some speakers!

Other than future cruise presentations, and possibly around the photographer's studio, I have never encountered anything feeling like a sales pitch on Azamara.

The Spa, Jewellery and Art is also quite a pitch

We had a very interesting speaker on sea days on our Christmas cruise. A specialist in forensic DNA. Lectures on DNA mysteries, like Jack the Ripper, the Unknown Soldier, an unidentified child who died on the Titanic, etc. Fascinating stuff.

That speaker would be described as a "special interest speaker."  A person talking about ports would be described as a "destination speaker."

The Destination Speaker is not necessarily someone who has extensive and in depth knowledge of a port - often they are retired people who have cruised to areas and done some local research along the way.  If you know an area you will find limitations and a rather wikipedia type approach in most of their inputs.  Im glad Marinaro did not refer to them as Destination Experts as some onboard material can.  Some are of an acceptable standard, others are so bad we have seen them removed mid cruise!
