I will probably take the test on the 18th, but will give Carnival the letter before I give them the test results. It may save me from getting tested at the dock and again two days into the cruise. You're tested a total of three times for this cruise. Two days before, once at embarkation and two days into the cruise.

Hawaii has their own set of requirements. Testing during the cruise may be one of them and I don't know that they will accept an excuse.

My husband and I both tested positive for covid in January. We have the necessary documentation from the lab that performed our tests which gave positive results, and we were in touch with our doctors at the time. But since my symptoms were mild and my husband had no symptoms at all, our doctors simply advised us to isolate and recover at home. We were never seen by our doctors or treated. We are booked on a cruise that sails in 22 days, which is within the 90-day window of continuing to test positive. It's possible our doctors will provide letters, but it's also possible they won't. It's also very likely that we will test positive. What do we do? Even if we have the documentation and letters from our doctors, the part that is really concerning to us is the statement at the end that reads:

We don't know whether to go forward or cancel. We have not only the expense of the cruise at risk, but also our flights to the port and a hotel room. Would you risk going forward? I would really appreciate some level-headed opinions.

If you tested positive then why wouldn't your doctor give you a letter? You don't need medical treatment for covid in most people. You have proof of a positive test to show them. Before you stress out, definitely call your doctor!

I just got off the phone with my provider's office and they will start working on the letter, but I just read the FAQ that is linked in the OP and it says that if you present the required documentation you will need to be evaluated by the medical staff when you check in and a decision will be made at that point whether or not you board. Knowing that I'll hold the documentation as an ace in the hole in the event my proctored at home test comes up positive.

I don't think it's an 'excuse'. I think that natural immunity has been shown to last until at least 90 days past a Covid infection.

While possible, I doubt it has been shown true for Omicron, Omicron 2.0, Deltachron, etc.

the documentation of recovery has nothing to do with immunity lasting 90 days. It’s due to the fact that once you test positive for covid, you can continue to test positive for up to 90 days without being reinfected.

and just as a side note, I do know people who had covid twice within 90 days. They got sick, tested positive, got better. Then got sick again and tested positive again.

Did they have two neg PCR tests between the infections? If not, they tested pos “still” and not “again”. Second infection may or may not have been COVID. Not saying it wasn’t but cannot confirm. This is how bogus “data” is produced.

One of them was very close to the 90 day mark so I feel confident it was a new infection. It would have been extremely unlikely for him to still have been testing positive. The other one is harder to say. The time between infections was only a week or two.

So glad to see that masks are still required. Not going to be sailing on NCL or Royal Caribbean since they have mostly dropped their mask requirements. Also glad to see I can smoke in the casino again.

And you will only exhale into your mask?

My SO tested positive on February 1st. She had to go to the ER for something else and they discovered it when they tested her. She had no symptoms. She saw our PCP on the 11th and had no problem getting a letter saying she could cruise. I printed out what needed to be on it, from the Carnival FAQ page, and she made sure it was good to go. On a whim I took a test at CVS later the same day and I came up positive as well (also no symptoms). I called our doctor and got an appointment for the 23rd and she said there would be no problem getting a letter as long as I'm asymptomatic when I see her next week.
