Came off the miillenium a few days ago - there was def a sign up each day saying family hours - think it was 4 - 7. Didn't really notice any children on the cruise/ in the pool. Not sure if it was mentioned in the dailys . It was a carribean cruise - bit of rain but mostly nice days.

Yes, this sign was posted but there’s also a sign at the solarium hot tubs that includes “kids will be kids, please watch yours” Wish I had snapped a photo.

I saw that, but am wondering if it's a standard sign on all the hot tubs. I'll see if there are "family" hours listed in the daily program.

That is consistent with what we saw on the Millie last August. I just checked the photos I took my son in the Solarium pool, unfortunately, I don’t have any of the sign.

Perhaps the signage has been inconsistent but I can never understand when there is a clear sign posted that says "No kids" and parents think "That doesn't apply to me."  Just astounding.

For us, we only went during the posted hours that kids were permitted.

So if the weather is lousy, where can children go swimming on the ship, the bathtub?  We have an upcoming cruise with a 4-year old to cold weather ports, do we ask for wet suits to swim in an outdoor pool?   I understand the desire for a quiet adults only area. But it is a reasonable compromise for limited hours access.  Only thing is most children will eat early at 5 pm for early bedtime reasons AND to be less disruptive to guests eating at 6 or later.  So 4 to 7 not great hours either.  Please have a little consideration for us families in the same manner we try to be considerate for your needs.  By the way, leaving kids at home is NOT an option.

I'd set expectations with your child. You booked a cruise to cold-weather ports. It may be that swimming is not an option. There are other activities onboard, as well as a kids' club that I, as an adult, would not be allowed to enter. Rules apply to all.

Why would you book a cruise to cold weather ports if having an opportunity for kids to swim is one of your priorities?  It would seem as if choosing a different itinerary or cruise line would make more sense than expecting Celebrity to change the rules to fit your needs.

I am a mother of young kids, myself, and I would never expect Celebrity to change the rules because I thought my kids were entitled to do something.  I do think it is a nice service that they may open up the area for kids on a limited basis if the weather is bad, but I would never expect them to do it and would simply be grateful when/if it happened.

We booked a trip to Iceland in July so how else would a child see the natural wonders of that country, YouTube videos?  Swimming is NOT a priority, but a half hour dip when it is cold outdoors is really not asking much.  Yes, Iceland has geothermal lakes but may not be suitable for young children.  We are in suites but even retreat is outdoors.  This is not entitlement but something called consideration and compassion for other passengers.  Nobody is banishing you from the Solarium when kids are there during limited times.  We are older parents blessed with a miracle child later in life so we see your viewpoints but the joy of children far outweighs the inconveniences.  Hrhdhd, I would be happy to escort you to the kids club and request some limited hours for you too!

Seems like you made a decision based on what is best for the adults, not the children.  When my kids were young, we always considered all of the options making sure there were many for them to be included.  Are you familiar with the Caribbean?

I understand Docsneeze trying to find a compromise but in the end, Celebrity isn't really a "kid's" cruise line.  Perhaps a cruise line that caters more to families and goes to the ports of interest that you  like would be a better fit.

Most 4 year olds will have zero to very little memory of the cruise when they are older.

The adult solarium is one reason I enjoy cruising on Celebrity..

This is not entitlement ...

Asking Celebrity to change an adult-only space to a kid-friendly space because you choose to sail in a cold weather climate with a four year old is the very definition of entitlement.

You booked on a ship that very specifically says the area is for adults and eclectic that it will be changed - how is that no entitlement?  All of the literature clearly states Adults Only not a thing about limited times.

We ALWAYS make vacation decisions on the basis of family, not parents.  Anything else would be offensive to a parent.  We have traveled on 20 cruises mostly before children including Celebrity, RCL, Disney, HAL, Oceania, Princess, etc.  The Caribbean 6 times!  Our decision here as with others is for the itinerary of Iceland and Ireland which is a family heritage trip.  There is no better "fit"!  We have been on Celebrity 5 times.  We know what we are getting into.  Not asking much here, just a little understanding for limited access to facilities when weather conditions are poor.  Thank you.

I feel like, if you are a parent who books a cold-weather cruise with young children on a ship that explicitly says the only indoor pool is adults only, then that's on you. MANY adults books Celebrity specifically because the Solarium is adults-only. How is it more fair to appease parents who booked knowing the Solarium is adults only than it is to appease the adults who booked specifically for that reason?

Not entitlement, compassion.  Asking for an hour a day in bad weather does not fit the definition of entitlement.  As for the 4 y/o memory issue, with Covid 19 and being older parents, likely older than other posters here, life is short and never know when you will have this opportunity again.  Several of my close friends have died in the past year and need to make the most of life now.

Oh and being able to use the solarium is going to be a life altering moment creating amazing memories for life.

No, just a brief chance to swim in a pool on the ship just like everyone else.  Only a few hours total out of a 2 week cruise is not going to mess up your cruise.  We already pay significantly more for a third person who will not eat much food or take up more space.  This is not a kids free cruise.  Not entitlement, fairness if you don't care for the compassion term.

I guess we have a different definition of "fair". To me, it is unfair to sell adults cruises with the promise of an adult's only area and then open it up to kids.
