Verandah Cabins on Oosterdam

We are looking into a 40 day cruise on the Oosterdam, a ship that we’ve never been on. Are there any suggestions of Verandah cabins or areas we should avoid. Also, for those that have been on the Oosterdam, any suggestions for cabins or areas we should try to book?

We are partial to the VF category verandahs in the front of the ship on deck 8.

Why:   It's quiet up there...a good value.......it's near the gym/hydro suite and the lido buffet and lido pool.....So that's the center of our world.  When it is time for dinner,  we have a nice and needed long stroll to/from the MDR.

As a photographer, add my vote for an aft-facing stateroom that will allow you to see and capture from your balcony what is happening on both sides of the ship.  You will also be out of the wind while the ship is moving which means spending more time on your balcony for Room Service breakfast, a mid-afternoon plate of nachos, and watching the sunset.  Room Service food will be hot since you are just three minutes from the Room Service kitchen.  The Lido Market and MDR are short elevator rides away.

If you can book a Deck 5 aft stateroom, your completely covered balcony will let you enjoy it in the rain.

If one of them is available, check out 4164 and 4166.  The balconies for these cabins are HUGE - double wide.

one of them has a shower only though so you would need to check the deck plans IF one is available.  I haven’t heard anyone with one of these cabins not rave about them.  There are pics on halfacts.com

There is only one cabin that is available in that area, 4172. Also available is 4129. Which is in a preferable location? Will we hear kitchen noises from below in 4172?

There is a very limited amount of Verandah cabins on this voyage. None are aft facing.

I recommended those 2 cabins because of their verandah sizes and the favourable comments by people who have had them.

I haven’t been in either cabin you are mentioning and cannot state with certainty what you will hear.  Why don’t you visit halfacts.com and see comments made by other cruisers in those areas?  Just click Vista class and all the ships but the Noordam (slightly different but not that much) cabin comments would be relevant to the Oosterdam.

Our last two cruises were on Oosterdam, and it is our favorite of the 3 HAL ships we've sailed. We did a 7 day in cabin VA6089, just ahead of the mid-ship elevators, and our most recent was a 17 day in cabin VC5172. That was a Panama Canal transit and we enjoyed being aft of the lifeboats for a more uninterrupted view.

Both are standard verandah cabins, nothing special, just comfortable, and we'd gladly sail again in either.

We’ve been on the Oosterdam 3 times and have always booked a Verandah aft Deck 7, of course midship would be better but those cost more.  I would avoid Deck 8 unless you are under a carpeted area. The Lido above Deck 8 can create noises especially if you are light sleeper.

Our next cruise just so happens to be on the Oosterdam but this time we are splurging on a Neptune Suite on Deck 7.

Think it depend where on deck 8....We love the front verandahs...VF's.....The spa is above us and it's a quiet area, from our experience.

Yes, that’s a good area to be under and was our favorite area on the older ships, like the Veendam.
