MSC Wristbands

Hello-

Does MSC "currently" use the MSC For Me Wristbands and is contract tracing "currently" enabled?

If the contract feature is enabled, does this mean that a passenger who enjoys exploring the ship and walking throughout the ship will probably show positive and be flagged for possible Covid contact? Thanks

Ok, I'll bite.

Mera had them, Divina no, not smart ship.

What they use them for, no idea.  Presumed tracing to meet crazy CDC rules.  Not a big deal.

Thanks for your reply and like yourself, no big deal for us either. My concern is that if my family enjoys walking, exercising and ship-exploring which will expose us to many guess, does this put us at a higher risk of possible close contact with a positive passenger which will force us into Covid jail ?

They had the bands on my January Meraviglia cruise and claimed they were for contract tracing. I used mine for opening my cabin door and they scanned it each morning to record my daily temperature check when entering the buffet. With less than 600 passengers onboard, I was never near anyone else more than a few seconds other than in the theater and had no issues.

On my cruise on Meraviglia, some guests revolted and handed them in on the first day. Other people simply removed them and left them in the stateroom.

We didn't enter the buffer but we were never checked for temperature anywhere. I kept mine on and used it for purchases, entering the stateroom, entering the Yacht Club, etc.

To clarify, not all wristbands created equally.  Mera had a Fitbit slim style.  On Divinia if in YC, to go to OH you were given the old style rubber bands.  Never recall being so hard to get on.  Ran into others who said same thing. Maybe a bad batch.

I see your concern. My thinking is that, if they look at all (which I am skeptical is the case) they would look for people spending time together at close proximity indoors for more than 15 minutes (so someone you dined with or sat with at the bar for an extended period of time), so not just a brief encounter - I don't think this is something to worry about.

Be concerned

Just because someone is stupid your vacation could get trashed.

Bring a large strength magnet and kill it.  I refused to wear it on Seashore or Meraviglia these last few months. Also don't use your card in the casino. They can track that.

Today on Seaview we had to get another Covid test. I have had 5 in 7 days and I get to get another on Sunday and two more next week courtesy of MSC.

If someone asks for your card at a venue tell them you don't have it on you.

They have been asking our room number instead. We give the wrong one. Only exception is cashing out in casino, your picture pops up.

I was on mera in October.   My son left his wristband on the table in our room and we never noticed.   It was there for a day.   Ship security found the family at the pool and kindly asked us the make sure we had our bracelets.   We were told that they noticed his bracelet not moving for a day.   They were very nice and it was an honest mistake.   We were told that the contact tracing will only kick in if you spend significant time directly next another and not just passing by.

No biggie.

The bracelet actually came in handy when i left my phone at the photo area and didn't realize it until ship security brought my phone to me while i was seated outside.   They said they found my phone and delivered it to me.   I believe they use these more for tracking and for marketing and passenger habit info more than the virus.

Do you really believe that?

They are only telling you that fib so if an issue arrives they can grab you.

Why the big concern about your son not moving?

Why does the casino care so much that you have your card in a machine? Is a key chain as a point prize that valuable?

It's all a big lie, they tracked you for your camera. If someone you sat near in a show was positive, you would have been screwed.

Spending tens of thousands on bracelets is not for customer service.

‘That is REALLY creepy. I am a huge MSC fan (5 cruises to date) but will seriously consider giving a pass to any ship that is using tracing like this. (I believe it is not being used - yet?- on Seashore/Seaside despite the bracelets.).

Huge privacy concerns and great risk to a vacay being tossed into quarantine for what is currently often asymptomatic or very mild esp with everyone double or triple vaxxed on board. No way.

I was on Seashore YC  b2b this past December and they did not have those kiosks but the bracelets they did have and want you to wear as well as card in your machine.

Also in the casino, I have not been playing table games because they ask for your card. Tell them you don't have it, they ask for room number.  You can't lie because your picture pops up on their screen.
