Cashing out OBC

I did search for this topic, and the most recent discussion I found was nearly a year old, with varying answers. Next week we are sailing to Bermuda with $600 OBC. While I fully understand one cannot just get cash for this, but after gratuities and excursions, we will have about $125 left. We are not drinkers and the specialty restaurants, spas, etc. really hold no fascination. Other than buying trinkets in the shops, is there a way to play a bit in the casino and cash out the rest? I have read that only the winnings can be cashed out. Having never gambled, I have no idea how the casino works. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Go to the casino and put $125 on your player bank on a slot machine. Spin a few times and cash out. Take the slip to the cashier and get your cash. I did this recently to obtain cash since we ran short unexpectedly.

You can withdraw the $125 in chips (less a 3% fee) at any table game or load $125 to your slot account (no fee). Once you've played or whatever you want to do just go up to the cashier and tell them you want to cash out and hand them either your chips or your S&S card for the slot bank.

I don't know if you have to actually play the slots to be eligible to cash out or not.

So to confirm, I can play the slots with my $600 credit?  I play a lot and I lose a lot....not looking to just get the cash!

OBC is for any charge incurred onboard so I don't see why you can't parlay it into something bigger.

Was on the Dream 5 weeks ago with $600 on board credit. Just go to slot machine and insert you sail and sign card, set up an account and charge however much money to your room it will load that amount to the machine. You can cash out whenever you want or move to another machine. I turned my OBC into about $1450 and several drinks.  Good Luck and have fun on their money.

That's right....everyone keep posting the "casino cash-out" trick.

That will surely last, until the cruise-lines put an end to it as well.

I know you are all trying to "help"............but!

Thanks,

Fred.

They've been aware of this for years and haven't stopped it yet, I doubt they are going to any time soon.

We had left over last week so on our last night we ordered a basket of fries for $2 from room services and the guy that delivered it got a nice tip.

How do you use your account for tipping the staff? We always tip our room steward in cash.

He/she will give you a "receipt" to sign.  Although I always tip room service in cash, I'm sure there is a line on the receipt for tip - just add it and it will come off of your S&S account.

Last year my sister had purchased bar cash (think that's what it is called) and on the last night had about $50 left - she found our favorite casino bar waiter, ordered a drink then added the $50 tip on the receipt.  Not a problem and the young lady was very appreciative.

Exactly, there is always a receipt even if the items haven't a charge (and interestingly when we ordered the breakfast sandwiches a gratuity wasn't added automatically, just the cost of the sandwiches).

Why people choose to do the Casino 2-step is beyond me.  Just go to the Kiosk and get your OBC in cash right there.  I did this with $1400 OBC a few years back.   And yeah do this so your gratuities, etc. are charged to your credit card earning you more of the rewards your credit card offers.

I do not think the kiosks are set up to dispense cash.  Has anyone else done this?

If this is an option, and I don't believe that it is (not any longer, at any rate), there is probably a fee associated with it.

What and where are these kiosks?

They have 2 or more kiosks on the ship, they look like an ATM. You can check your balance, add funds to your account, change bills to smaller denominations (down to $5's). I believe you can also get a print out of your account if you wish. Kind of a mini-guest services station. I think you can find them using the Hub App.

Wow, you learn something new every day! I never noticed nor needed these. But changing larger bills would be handy, if there is no service charge. Thank you!

They'll change bills for you in the casino and possibly at Guest Services as well, just a better chance of a line.

People choose to do the "two-step" because you can only cash out refundable OBC.  Non-refundable OBC requires the work around.

Well all I can tell all of you is that this OBC was from an Early Saver price protection on The Magic.  I went to the Kiosk and there there was an option to cash it out (may have been worded differently).  I did it via two transactions.  First was for $1000 and went back the next day for the remaining $400 after realizing I was better off to have all our cruise charges go on our credit card.  I think I could have taken it all in a single transaction if I wanted to.
