We have always just walked past the host and headed straight to our table. I can see no problem as long as you know where your table is. We have done this when we have a two top or eight top. It would be completely different if we had MTD which we will never have, absolutely love a large table and a 2 hour+ dinner. We always have a at least a three night package for alone time dining. However, I scope the table number as soon as I board/ get the table number on my sea pass. It has become a must for me since my first sail on Oasis in September, I get placed in the MTD group even though I request and confirmed traditional. Possibly because I sail solo. On my Easter Anthem sail, I went to get it changed and I was told no traditional availability. I was really irked as MTD began at 6:45. Since I was traveling with my son and family and their reservation was linked to mine, I asked the Maitre D for their table location and told them to seat me with them.

And what land based restaurant has given you a set time, a set dining room, a numbered table and the same wait staff. Look at your sea pass card it has the deck level and table number, why stop by the host.

NCL and Disney did not have this same issue. Possibly Royal should go to ordering in the app for those who want to if wait staff is that short. Or possibly you should stick with NCL and Disney. If a cruise line (or any business for that matter) is not providing you with what you want, the easy answer in my opinion is to take your business elsewhere. l have been on 7 RCI cruises and 2 Celebrity cruises since August. I continue to sail with these cruise lines, with my next cruise in a few days, because I like what they offer. If I wasn’t happy with them, I would simply start cruising on another cruise line.

Maitre D may have already been showing another couple their table. Wait a bit and someone always shows up. Too much capacity again...ships still not fully restaffed. Patience is required on current sailings. A lot of it.

We have gone back to the old days of yesteryear for us since restart. If we are on a ship without a CK...it's back to the MDR early traditional dining now. Used to be fond of the specialty restaurants...but once again...not impressed post Covid experiences in those. Perhaps things will change back to normal...maybe...someday...but until then. The longer answer is I like to eat a lot and my wife is so picky that she often winds up ordering the standby caesar salad and boring chicken from the MDR b/c she won't eat anything else half the time so she finds more stuff in WJ too. She's a big fan of the cook to order stations on ships that have them. We'll be eating in the MDR and CK on Harmony b/c it's a family cruise but then we'll still go to WJ after. 🙈

But lately have once again changed our habits. It is wonderful to have so many dining choices on the ships. Love having the options. 🙂 And we sure don't go hungry! 😉

Rare MandyMooToo Posted May 20, 2022 #97 Share Posted May 20, 2022 We typically cruise RCCL but got a crazy good deal on a Carnival cruise and took it recently. Carnival does the same thing in regards to ordering. We did tell our waiter one night that we wanted to wait on dessert and it was not a problem. As an aside, the one thing I liked better about Carnival for MTD was the app check in. When you wanted to eat you opened the app and checked in. It gave you an estimate of the wait time and then notified you when your table was ready, giving you ten minutes to arrive in the MDR. You could then signal that you were on your way and your table number was displayed in the app. Very efficient.

Your "card" has your table # on it and each table has the number clearly noted on a card on the table. Easy to find. If you have any issues, someone will assist you on the first evening or two. This is how it was for us even pre-Covid.
