Do you have to do a Covid test each time you go off and on at each port

We've done four RCI cruises since January and were only required to test before originally boarding the ships and in between our B2B. At none of our port stop was an additional test needed.

However if you go to medical onboard with symptoms you will of course be tested and policy followed per the outcome.

It depends on the cruise line and the countries you are visiting. Standards continue to change frequently, so someone's experience last week/month, may be different this week.

As of last month, Barbados required a negative antigen COVID test before you could go ashore. Also, last month, Israel required a negative PCR before going ashore.

Our preferred cruise line still does pre-boarding and daily PCR (saliva) tests.

Check with the cruise line for any specific requirements, but in general a rapid NAAT test (which is the easiest) is required not more than 2 days prior to sailing.  Walgreens is one national chain that will perform this with an appointment at n/c with insurance.  Results are available typically within an hour.  This, in our 3 cruise experience since October with US closed loop departures, is the only test required to sail and depart at the ports of call we visited.

There is also a self test kit that is available, typically through the cruise lines, that can be performed by you at home while proctored on line for a fee. Again, it is best to check your cruise line website for information on all testing requirements and options.  They typically will list the full sailing protocols necessary for your itinerary.

A simple question and such a complicated answer which depends on the specific cruise line and the specific countries/ports being visited.  We know of at least one cruise line (Viking River Cruises) that actually tests each passenger each day!  Many other cruise lines do the minimum required by rules.  So, for example, when we recently took a 27 day Seabourn cruise from Miami to Monte Carlo we only needed a negative test prior to the cruise (done 2 days prior) and one additional test done on the ship the day before we finished our first segment just prior to reaching Lisbon.

One important lesson we have learned (traveling throughout the pandemic) is that the rules constantly change and this can even happen on a daily basis.  Not only does this impact testing but it can also result in last minute itinerary changes.

Having done 3 cruises in the past 8 months (to the Caribbean and Europe) we have never encountered a situation where testing was required at each port.  One interesting tidbit is that we just returned home after spending 3 weeks traveling in Europe (Monoco, France, Czech Republic, Germany, and Poland) and never once did we need to be tested except before our flight back to the USA.  We were also never asked to show our vaccination cards except at our Miami embarkation.

Depends on your vaccination status. Vaccinated? Boosted?

Depends on the cruise line.

Depends on the ports (countries) being visited.

Not in the Med.

No tests necessary at all. But there again, I am fully vaxxed and boosted.

One test day before cruise and nothing else. Very relaxed in Italy, Croatia, Montenegro and Greece.

Other than wearing a mask on busses to trips, even masks werent needed. Not even in Rome Airport.

It was a joy.
