Just got off Quantum of seas on May 30th.

Recommended Posts

Just got off Quantum of seas on May 30th. It took us ( party of 11) by surprise how disappointed we were with RCCL. It started with embarkation, we signed up for the 1:00 check in and still had to stand in line for 2 hours before we managed to get on board. Why have a check in time, no one checks if it’s your time or not. The same thing for the Covid test we had 2 people in our group that wasn’t even asked to show their test results.
We had a room for 4 and when we went to take showers there were only 2 towels, the 2nd night the soap dispenser was empty. We finally got our bathroom glasses replaced on the 4th day and he never closed the balcony drapes on the first day and had to ask him to close them the rest of the week. I know it sounds petty but when that sofa is made into a double bed there is like no room to walk though.

It seemed like the food in the Marketplace Buffet was the same every day for lunch, if you like a good burger this is definitely not the place for it. The food was so salty was ankles swelled up the 3rd day, never had that happen.

It’s great that they have all this trivia but the venue needs to be larger, not uncommon to see 30-40 people sitting on the floor. Everyone of the host was hard to understand because of masks and accents, on 1 occasion the host had to spell 6 different words because she didn’t know how to pronounce the word. It’s also great having all these things to do but they have such limited time you can’t get in. My grandson tried to get on I-Fly all week and had no luck. The bumper cars, Flowrider , laser tag and rock climbing walls are all very limited when it came to times of operations. Don’t go and think your going to these everyday because your not. I will say the sportplex area is a great place for kids and adults.

With all that said I think this may be my last RCCL cruise. This was a family vacation, as for the ports the beautiful weather we had at every port it was a great time. I thought it was interesting that our last 2 family cruises have been on Carnival and they all wanted to go on something nicer so I thought RCCL was the answer but all 11 said Carnival was better.

Then on the last day of the cruise my grandson tested positive and him and my daughter in law are quarantined in Seattle  till Friday. I just talked to her and RCCL said they would be in touch with her and she has not heard anything. She had to book her own room and everything, why do this? To look good to the CDC?
There was a great guitar player singer in Harp and Horn every night his name was Carlo. There was no sail away party on deck no bands and very little entertainment.

I was also quarantined in Seattle the week before and the cruise line was not good about giving me information before I left the ship.  We were able to get documentation with the help of the suite concierge.  She is entitled to $250/day towards hotel and $100/day for food.  You submit receipts to the cruise line for reimbursement.

Thanks for your candid review. Sorry for your experience. I hope this is more a case of just not being ready for an early in the season cruise and not a new standard (or lack of it).

The trick is to keep refreshing the app around 8AM on a port day when the free sessions are published for that day.

We also were on this sailing.  We had an 11:00 check-in...stood outside, then we stood

inside for approx 1 1/2 hours.

The weather was perfect!

The food was mostly okay/good.

Our party of six arrived home.  We had some congestion and coughing that we thought

was due from different climate...nope.  Four out of six are covid-19 postive.  All were

both fully vaccinated with a booster.

We were on the 16th sailing and loved the Quantum With a few exceptions

Embark for us was lucky and we were at the port at 10ish and onboard by 10:50…….guests later though had long lines as did both sailings before ours

The poor crew member who did the trivia really had such a pronounced accent and couldn’t get the answer out correctly….guests were cracking up and all in all it was fun

We were looking forward to Jamie’s Italian but were really disappointed…..Calamari was sooo chewy we ate 2 pieces and left the rest……other items and pasta was just OK….sad that the best thing was the garlic rolls

Loved the steakhouse though…..The windjammer buffet had ok food BUT so many people hacking and coughing we never went back after the 2nd time 🙈

Casino was fun and dealers awesome

Sad part is on each and every Quantum sailing so far including yours there’s a lot of positive Covid cases…..Some while still onboard and quite a few more posted once people are home ……The posts over on FB roll call keep rolling in w more and more guests testing positive 😓

It was our very first Royal cruise and we’ll cruise on her again but for now we’re going to stick with NCL

Seems the rates are just going up and up on that ship. I guess if you are sailing on the ship now you best budget more $$$ and More Time for your cruise.

Seems to be no control  of it on that ship?

Might be best for a timeout on that ship and cancel a cruise or 2 until they get it better under control.

Crew is probably spreading it around to other passengers not knowing they are positive until a few days later then testing positive.

Every single ship with Royal is orange right now. Does not give me great confidence in them.

At minimum bring back where buffet food is served by the crew instead of passengers dishing up themselves.

Previous 2 cruises this last year never a worry but this one is making me nervous.

You say all 11 say carnival is better. Have you done carnival since restart. I have done 3 and the last time I was like you and said no more carnival for a while. Carnival is also short staffed. Cut hours at deli, bacon every other day in buffet, flat iron steak changed to something I couldnt eat. .. my last rcl cruise I though very like carnival .. and not a compliment. People tell me it's all lines and short staffed.

As far as the curtains, I'm the opposite and wish they would quit closing my curtains. Stewards cant win. I dont think its possible to get my food too salty, so I wouldnt have noticed.

Maybe like me you need a break. Let the cruiselines staff catch up. I think you are in for a rude awakening if you think service or food will be better on carnival. Same same. Its going to be a long summer with plenty of comments on service or lack of.

Be thankful you had great weather.

why are people getting tested when getting off the ship?  It arrives in Seattle, and so no test is required.  Plus, if you got off the ship, and had covid, you were not "quarantined".  Just not allowed to fly, but you could go about and do what you want so no, it was not quarantined.  But also, the airlines don't ask if you have Covid either, so technically you can fly.  Unless you are going to another country, and that is different.

Maybe because the don't want to spread COVID further? Everyone should test when they return home from travel before re-entering the workplace or general population again.

If you are sick self quarantine at home. People need to have a little self responsibility.

This is CC, most people on here only care about themselves when it comes to Covid and the possibility of spreading it to others.
