Horizon - Hot, hot, hot (and no, not in a good way)

We had the same experience last fall.  The cabin was always at the verge of becoming unbearable.  We brought our normal travel fan and I still woke up during the night clammy.  Had we not brought the fan it would've been miserable.

I was also on the Horizon last week. When the casino was packed it was definitely quite warm in there. Some areas were certainly warmer than others but I didn't find anything unbearable, but I was never cold on any area of the ship. The weather was very warm so maybe that had something to do with it? Didn't have any problem keeping our cabin cool.

I agree 100% with the person who mentioned the food quality in the lido along with the lack of variety, the food was my biggest disappointment of the cruise.

Just a few replies to your post. The food in the buffet on Carnival was never something to write home about. Average and little variety. What gets me is when they have a really nice turkey to carve and the offer rice or baked potato. No mashed potatoes with gravy. Hum. Guy's burgers has gone down hill for sure. As for the casino. When they are packed it is always warmer in there. As for the heat from outside. Yes, you are correct. During a hot sunny day it makes a big difference to the inside temperature. Once the sun is down. It is usually down right cold. I finally purchased a nice sweater for the evenings. Never wanted to wear one before. Just getting old I guess.

I'm with you on serving rice with roast turkey....where is the mashed potatos and gravy?  Also, on this cruise, the turkey tasted like it had been brined.  I know a lot of people like a brined turkey but it was very salty and didn't taste anything like turkey....it could have been chicken or pork or a mystery meat.  It looked like turkey and it carved like turkey but the flavor had no resemblance to what a natural roasted turkey should taste like (just my opinion).

All the warmer places on the ship seemed to be in the aft...the aft buffet, Cucina and JiJi's are both located aft, Ocean Plaza is located aft??   I wonder if the aft staterooms were hot also?  If someone has stayed in an aft stateroom on the Horizon recently, please let me know.

I was in an aft balcony room recently and it wasn't hot at all.  The air conditioning worked great in our room.

We had an interior aft cabin on deck 6 on the 5/28 sailing; no issues with the air in our cabin. I agree with others and the OP regarding lack of air in public areas. It was miserable at times. I almost melted lol while waiting on line to eat at JiJi’s for lunch one day.

I assure you that you won't need a sweater on the Horizon. And it wasn't just when the casino was packed. It was hot no matter what. In fact, even hotter at night.

I was on the same sailing.  Yes, it was definitely too hot in many parts of the ship.  Even my room didn't really get "cool"  until around 2 a.m.  The comedy club was unbearable.

Otherwise a great cruise.  Had a great time.  Only wish more food options after 10pm.  Pizza line was 45 minutes.

Yes. Usually in the evening it is down right cold in the common areas. You see a lot wearing jacket's or sweaters. This is what I bring on board, every sailing. Alarm clock with temperature that happens to be very accurate. So is the clock which is automatically set via a radio frequency of Greenwich Mean Time

Am I reading this correctly, was your room 80°?

We stopped cruising with Carnival due to the cabin temps. The last several cruises we took our cabin was like a sauna, we literally went up to the serenity deck in the middle of the night to sleep. Guest services would send someone to check the temp they would point the thermometer directly at the vent and say it's within range. Range is 76° to 78°.

I don't know about most people, but that isn't acceptable to us. When you've been in the sun all day, I want to return to a cool room.

It wasn't acceptable to me either, years ago on the Liberty for a 6-night sailing.  Our room wasn't being A/C'd, in the sense that the air wasn't being dried or "conditioned."  It was humid.  After several back-and-forths to Guest Services and a visit from Engineering ("it meets our standards."  "Yes, with the cabin door propped open, I noticed") I invoked the Vacation Guarantee.   They were able to move me and my medically challenged sister to a different room, and all was well.  Balcony, too, instead of our oceanview.

If the room is too hot or humid for comfortable sleeping, I flatly won't accept it, especially on a long cruise like that.

Fast forward to last February, similar issue on the Sunrise.  I mentioned the warmth to my excellent steward.  An Engineering crewman showed up within 20 minutes and fiddled with the air vent.  I could hear the change in air-flow.   "Let me guess.  Damper?"  "Yes, sir.  Damper!"   And that was that!  😄

We're booked on Horizon in October, so I hope her A/C issues are resolved by then.

I will also add to my post that my daughter and I came home with souvenirs and we both have Covid now......

Sorry to hear this, hoping for a speedy recovery. Still, it makes me wonder if the air flow was reduced intentionally. It was discussed a while back the possibility of spreading the virus through air ducts.

I just got off the Horizon this past Saturday (June 11) and I've heard the same complaint on the FB group page about the ship being hot but I did not notice this.  And, given that I am a 50+ "fluffy" woman starting to experience "the change," this is something that I definitely would have noticed since I am hot all the time.  We were in an 8th floor aft balcony room and the room tended to be on the cool side, especially at night.

I'm not saying that everyone else's observations are not valid, I just find it interesting.  But, I also didn't experience the kids "terrorizing" the ship or the adult fights, either.  Hmm, maybe I just imagined that I was on the Horizon last week 😂

I'm fluffy and over 50 too. That's why I asked a bunch of others to make sure it wasn't just me. I didn't hear from anyone that didn't think it was crazy hot in certain places.

Some people go with the flow and some people complain or they are not happy.

Certainly your opinion. I had an awesome cruise except for the serious amount of sweating I did. I didn't complain about anything else(not even the fact that we got COVID). I absolutely go with the flow and the whole week kept telling my daughter "it's alright, we're on vacation!" whenever little things didn't go right. But, I really can't stand to sweat through all of my clothes for a week. Everything else was awesome!

I've lived in FL all of my 55 years. Which is why, when indoors, I don't expect to sweat like I do outside. Inside should be a reprieve from the heat.

Our friends who live in Europe have told us so many times that nowhere in the world does air conditioning like Florida and Texas. We tell them a/c is the only reason anyone can stand to live here. 😂

yep. Without it, no way, no how. But, thank goodness for it, because I'm a beach girl through and through and don't want to live anywhere that isn't close to the beach(and I mean the ocean, not a lake beach!).

Me too! I start going through withdrawal when I get too far from saltwater!

Same!!! Thank goodness my daughter's gym made her cheer tumbling this Sunday optional and we can finally hit the beach. I'm having withdrawals!

Not on the Horizon, Vista class ships have individual AC units to supplement ship A?C.  I am kind of anal and bring along a small digital thermometer. Pn ALL of our Vista class cruises, the room temps when the thermostat was turned all the way to cold was between 64.6 and 65.8, by far, the coldest temps we have ever seen (and too cold for us.(.
