Silver Moon Dinner Issues

Just off SIlver Moon after 10 nights in Iceland.Enjoyed cruise and ship is lovely but had some issues at dinner especially but not only in Atlantide.Previous cruise was on Cloud prior to covid and RCCL.

Two issues first being meat/fish portion size.Although fillet mignon is still quoted as 200gm it is nothing like the size during previous cruises, same goes to lamb chops and sea bass fillets. They have all shrunk.Am aware that they are having difficulties with logistics in obtaining supplies needed but…….Second issue is degree of cooking with medium steak usually rare,as obviously cooked very hot so outside over cooked before middle done, and lamb chops so thin that they are dry and overcooked.Fish fillets also dry and overcooked.Meanwhile whilst liking hem al dente vegetables specifically small potatoes, asparagus and carrot effectively raw.

Am also aware of staffing shortages, extra covid procedures and 27/22 guests/crew isolated with covid and staff doing really well to offer good service. However these basics spoiled several dinners.

Have other posters noticed these issues.

When I have been disappointed in the cuisine prepared as compared to what I have enjoyed on the same cruise line/ship, I put the responsibility for that on the Executive Chef for that cruise.

In January on Moon with DH, in the middle of Omicron surge and extreme Covid measures, we found Atlantide the least consistent in providing good food, and we witnessed some of what you described ( and a couple times, worse). Much as I loved the beautiful setting and the comfie chairs in Atlantide, we instead preferred the food in La Terazza for dinner ( consistent) , SALT ( consistent and interesting though no windows), or the Japanese venue  ( excellent but small, no windows or real ambience). We had some people in isolation and quarantine then too, but not as many as you.

How full were you?  We were only at 25%, which may make a service difference of course.
I suspect Iceland was popular.  We did Iceland on Crystal Endeavor in 2021 ( sadly, gone)  and the food quality was breathtakingly exquisite, so the problem is not the locale.

As for portion sizes, we sometimes asked for a half portion ( i.e., the opposite of your problem) ,  but if you are a big eater and know it, you can ask for two portions ( two of what you noted was too small for you) up front, no need to pull an Oliver  and say "Please sir, I'd like some more." 🙂

But if the quality is bad, that is harder to deal with on a short cruise ( sure, you can talk to the executive chef, but by the time anything is done, if at all, you will be disembarking).

CFan…did you bring these issues to the attention of the staff or manager?  I would think they would be receptive.  Personally, I don’t mind smaller portions after seeing so much waste on other cruises.  Can one just ask for seconds if not happy with a portion?

I’lll be on this ship this Fall and it would be great if some of these issues are rectified before I have to be the one to complain!

Thanks for the observations.

Different Chefs for the various venues?  If so, I submit that is an important factor as to whether a guest will or will not be pleased.

It was a popular cruise with approx 470 passengers, about the level that is currently termed “ full “

We ate in La Dame with same cooking issues, vegetables raw, medium rack of lamb(larger) rare and soufflé not cooked enough, still pasty. Then met F&B manager who had joined ship one month previously (his first ship appointment) and felt sorry for him as he described his difficulties. He went down with covid next day ( not me honest).Ate in La Dame again a few days later and meal was perfect, everybody including wait staff really pleased. However Atlantide 2 days later still had undercooked veg and overcooked fish.

Point about steak size was more a query regarding cost cutting although lamb chops were a joke.

That really is a non response to the OP. He/she is asking for a response based on an experience on the Moon, not a generalised opinion, particularly from someone who has zero Silversea experience.

There have been some issues on the Moon, we didn’t have the same problems on the Shadow, Sept 2021, or the Whisper for part of the World Cruise in Feb/Mar that we experienced on the Moon in December.

I had very inconsistent and sometimes poor food on the Moon  last august and after having the temerity to mention it was flamed on this board.

Anyway will be on the Cloud in August so will try the Silversea offerings again.

What does zero Silversea experience have to do with it?  If it wasn’t cooked properly -then Silversea has a problem.  You’re paying a fee to cruise so you should expect quality-period.

Is there anywhere I can look to get an idea of the menus?

Yes.  Just perform a simple search of this forum and you’ll find recent posts.  They are also posted in the files section of the  FB Passengers Group if you are a member there.

I THOUGHT I  did perform a simple search but ended up with Menus from ALL CC posts.  I did not find what I needed.  Don’t belong to Facebook.

My husband LOVES all seafood, I don’t eat any seafood.  On Princess and  Scenic there were available every day menu items. Does SS offer this?

Yes. SS offers an everyday menu.

When you perform your search, limit your query to the SS forum instead of the entirety of CC.  This way you’ll just see posts people have made sharing SS menus.

Hi, Atlantide offers an extensive menu......every day items and a rotating menu too. Your husband can get seafood every night if he wants and you can have other options.....plenty of them. Sorry, I don't have a menu but the choices are extensive.

Yes.

Unfortunately when I was on in January I did not take pictures of Atlantide menus.

But I found these that were taken by CC member Bitob shortly thereafter.
