The Sauvignon blank is very nice. Excellent, thank you. And these are replaced when required? Surprised there isn't the current go-to red - a Malbec. Or maybe I am behind the times! If not, and you will hear that hasn't been the norm for everyone, just ask your butler. Enjoy 🙂
Rare D&N Posted August 6, 2022 Author #29 Share Posted August 6, 2022 There seems to be an update to the Wine List published on Cunard's (en-gb) website: https://www.cunard.com/content/dam/cunard/my-voyage/pdfs/qm/qm_wine_list_02a.pdf And it includes prices! The version I photographed on QM2 looks to be out of date. The Pauillac that we found excellent has gone from $72 to $85. Did they read my comment? An improvement for those on drinks package is that Chablis, Chianti and Rioja have been reduced to $12 per glass. 4

Rare rakkor Posted August 27, 2022 #31 Share Posted August 27, 2022 I'll tell you Monday we've a 12 bottle Commodore's package booked for our Barcelona - Barcelona cruise - We need to top this up with a couple of bottles and was going to buy them when we arrived, but now I'm thinking of getting them when we dock in Villefranche - @D&N any recommendations for a good wine shop?

I believe you're in Cannes this Wednesday as well? We're hoping to catch the ferry to Île Sainte-Marguerite at about 09:30, and take some photos for the location thread. Although the forecast keeps changing and weather might not be great. There's still time for them to change their guess though. There is a: Casino Supermarché Cannes "Pont-des-gabres" at 54 bd. d'Alsace. It's autumn "Foire aux Vins" started yesterday and continues until Sept 11th. Here's a link to the shop details, and you should find a link to "Foire aux Vins" catalogue on that page, which lists all the offers they have. It's about 2.2kms walk each way from Quay Max Laubeuf, or you could get a taxi/uber. https://magasins.supercasino.fr/supermarche/cannes-pont-des-gabres/CS987 Our local store is a Géant Casino, and the promotion doesn't start until Tuesday. I've already made a list of over 50 bottles to buy for our cave! I don't see a Casino store in Villefranche, nearest is Nice. But there will be smaller independent wine shops as well, there and in Cannes.
Rare D&N Posted August 27, 2022 Author #34 Share Posted August 27, 2022 (edited) @rakkor If you don't want to go so far there are independents: Caviste Ets Vallauri, 10/12 Rue des Halles Cave Riviera, 7 Rue Teisseire 1862 Wines & Spirits, 5 Rue du Maréchal Joffre And the chain; NICOLAS at 40 Rue Meynadier and 21 Rue d'Antibes I've not used any of them but they'll all give guidance on wines. Casino Group shops are cheaper but you need to know what to buy. Parts of their promos are vouchers for the future, which won't be any use to you. There seems to be very little in Villefranche other than restaurants and souvenir/crafts shops. Edited August 27, 2022 by D&N
Rare rakkor Posted August 27, 2022 #35 Share Posted August 27, 2022 I actually got it wrong, our first French stop is Cannes not Villefranche where we're off to Antibes.

By tour or by train? There's not many big supermarkets in centre of Antibes, so probably NICOLAS and independents. Best to bring up Google Maps on phone and type in "cave vins", that will show nearest. Watch most will close for lunch, google should give that detail. If you are walking from port to train you can pass some of the shops I already listed.

It's a simple matter to load the lists into a spreadsheet and then look up the current prices from the wine list posted upthread. The Captain's Collection wines average about $48, or a little over $55 when the 15% gratuity is added. So if you drink the entire 6-bottle allocation you're likely to save about $4 per bottle on average. The wines in the Commodore's Collection average $65-66, or about $75-76 with gratuity. Savings is about a dollar or two per bottle for the six-bottle allocation. The 12-bottle allocations would save more. If you were very selective you could save $6-8 per bottle in the Captain's Collection and $5-6 per bottle in the Commodore's Collection by only selecting the most expensive red and white wine offered. I have a 13-night Caribbean cruise booked and could easily go through six bottles of wine between two people in that period (the 12 is possible if we have wine every night). But selecting across the cellar we might choose from lower in the price range some nights.
techteach Posted August 31, 2022 #44 Share Posted August 31, 2022 There just weren’t enough bottles on the list that I really would want to try. I would be missing some of the bottles from the full list. Kung Fu Girl Riesling? I know it very well because its from Washington, decent and inexpensive. But if a great Alsatian is available I would not want to have the Kung Fu Girl because we’ve purchased a plan. OBC will buy wine.

Was considering the wine collections, but given we'll be in Queens grill we'll have a couple of bottles in the room (so i understand) - presumably not the same quality as those in the dining room, but we are no experts... all will probably be better than we are used to buying from Naked Wines or Virgin Wines! Rare D&N Posted August 31, 2022 Author #47 Share Posted August 31, 2022 I ruled out the collections. Would only consider 5 on Captains and 4 on Commodore. Probably break even on 6 (taking account of 15% on individual bottles) and make a saving on 12. But those I'd consider probably wouldn't be first choice, so we'd end up drinking same wines for two weeks. And if I wanted a particular wine to go with a dish, I'd be ordering outside the package anyway.

sucramdi Posted September 28, 2022 #49 Share Posted September 28, 2022 Are there ever additional by-the-glass offerings? That selection is rather disappointing compared to impressive list of bottles on offer.
