Rare annmarz Posted August 13, 2022 #27 Share Posted August 13, 2022 We used these on our recent NCL cruise. And they DID ALLOW personal water bottles, full or empty, to be brought on board when embarking and when returning from shore excursions. This was on the Star. BTW, we loved these bottles. Felt they paid for themselves quickly. We used them in airports also. Only negative was they are a bit heavy.

To be fair - I wouldn't drink that water if it came out of the tap either. I would let the water run for a long time and see if that cleared it up though. Whether that picture causes "alarm" is up to the reader. I look at that picture as informational and a reminder that you really don't know where your water has been before it comes out the tap.

Taste is certainly personal preference, but cruise lines aren't in the habit of purposely making their customers sick. That would negatively impact their bottom line. And we all know frankie boy (and friends) only care about padding that wallet of theirs. Only if you believed that nonsense. The only person who could know that for sure would be one of the mechanics on the ship. It’s like saying your car wont start and someone a thousand miles away saying oh, its the battery, meanwhile it could be at least a half a dozen other things. There was a real problem with that public water system (we won't get into the reasons why) that resulted in them needing to drink bottled water to have safe water to drink. The VAST majority of public water systems in the US provide safe drinking water without a need for additional filtration. 24 minutes ago, ALKID said: Only if you believed that nonsense. He admitted that this happens occasionally, there was some reason for it and if the tap had been allowed to run it would have cleared up. It really isn't different in the specific context here (reminder: I replied to the comment about "Americans are suckers for a good scam, bottled water being one of the largest"). I suspect the people of Flint were told many times that the water was safe. Turns out it wasn't. At my home, I have confidence in the water system but when I am elsewhere not so much. I take exception to being referred to as scammed because I choose to drink bottled water when not at my home.

People with the ground their standing on quickly eroding beneath their feet often result to insulting those they're arguing with. You've fallen hard for the marketing by the bottled water companies. The reality is that for most of them they're simply pulling from the local water supply, the same water that the residents of that area get from their taps! There may be additional filtering, but there's otherwise nothing special about it. 2

I recall they sold single cans of soda, but am unsure on the water. Thanks... Molokai-Chuck You can purchase single bottles of water from some of the bars and restaurants. Don't enter the gift shop anymore. Casino will bring it to you for free IF you are gambling but suggest a tip. I also suggest you take a few empty small 8 oz. plastic (due to weight) water bottles in your luggage and fill them from the larger bottles you can purchase, IF you don't want the water package offered. Not going to get into any discussion, other than what you asked. Some are happy with what they do and some not.

It’s like saying your car wont start and someone a thousand miles away saying oh, its the battery, meanwhile it could be at least a half a dozen other things. Pure speculation One of the posters here, who was a Chief Engineer on ships, said it happens when they flush the system. The water is sanitized with sodium hypochlorite (bleach) and they sometimes push the levels up very high, maybe like shocking a pool. Then they flush the system removing it. Occasionally you'll hear about blonds getting "green hair" from a shower when they are doing this, or water in the tap that looks like the picture. According to the engineer, they usually do this on a busy port day so few cruisers notice. The taste of the sodium hypochlorite is offensive to me; it's pool water in my mind. Where I live, the city water is NOT sanitized with bleach and doesn't have that smell or taste, so it's very foreign when I come in contact with it. I prefer filtered water for the taste - and the water at bars or restaurants seems fine. I buy the water package for convenience; I don't want to run up to the buffet at 2 am when I get up for Tylenol (seems like I need that every night now). Interestingly, there's a YouTuber who is a Brit, and has done several contracts on different lines, and she listed the things you have to pay for as an employee. One of the things was bottled water, as they are told (or have a peer belief) that you should not drink out of the tap. The link to the video is here and the water portion is at 10:00 into the video.

I actually prefer the water on board and would refill our platinum water bottles and put them in the fridge for the next day, but now with the boxes of water, that probably won't work. 😞 Have to bring my thermal cups since the other water bottles I have will leak. juju2454 Posted August 18, 2022 #47 Share Posted August 18, 2022 I guess what I don't understand is why tap water people get worked up over others wanting bottled water. If you are at a bar , do you tell others what you think they should have for a drink? Just sayin' I live bottled better, and if it get my my hydration, so be it. So buy a bigger room, it's their money I buy bottled water, By the way beyond the air packs, there has always been air in a can and in a compressed tank, divers pay good money for it..... They either 1) don't drink water very often so they don't care about the taste; 2) don't realize they pay more for things that are exactly the same like different whiskeys or beer; or 3) have an environmental concern about plastic bottles. For me it's mostly about taste, with a nod toward the convenience of having the water with me.
