I’ve had good results with this as well. Others report no response.

We just email or call our cruise agent/agency and let them deal with MSC.  And the extra OBC (given by many agencies) is always appreciated.

That's fine if you have a good ta.  It seems current one is either on vacation, or doesn't return phone calls or emails.  I'm stuck with her for this cruise, but I'll be moving on after.

Anyway, I was just trying to help.

Over the decades we have developed our own criteria for choosing a cruise agency/agent.  We only use high volume cruise agencies that have a decent online presence and booking engine.  All of our favored agencies offer generous On Board Credits ( generally 5-10% of the cruise fare).  These agencies also have a customer service system that works even when our particular cruise agent is not available.  Lately, we only use agencies that are part of large “consortiums” which gives each agency more clout.

Send me an email or call. I use a TA that gives about 8-9% back in obc.

I am waiting for an email from someone on CC that their TA gives more than that amount.

How was your cruise on Seashore? We had a great 15 days on her. I think grandma's are now spoiled by the service and food.

Hi, Frank

My problem isn't the amount of obc that I receive.  I also receive quite a bit .... it's over 10% on this upcoming Seashore cruise...(not until October).  My problem with them is that I can never reach them via email or telephone after I've committed with my reservation.

Sometimes you wonder if the aggravation of not having calls, etc. returned is worth the OBC.

Well I have a TA that is responsive but you get a little less OBC.

Enjoy your cruise on Seashore. We had a great 14 nights on her.

If you have time we are sailing MSC Citavechi June 9-16 and then Genoa June 18-25 2023. Also RCCL Brilliance last Alaska cruise Sept 17-24 then Sept 24 to Hawaii. Would be nice to sail with you and Jose again. Then spend a few a week in Hawaii. Prices are really good a few weeks ago. Problem is that cruises are on the other side of the US for you.

What about your plans.

We don't usually get 10% obc....it's more like 7% on most cruises, this one was different, but I am paying for it with annoyance.

I thought you were going to be sailing primarily Navigator from Cali.

We're the opposite of you.  Our plans since Covid are cruise to cruise.  But since most cruise lines have dropped their restrictive protocols, we might just look farther ahead.

We do understand that many folks have had some bad history with various cruise/travel agencies.  That is why you need to conduct your own "due diligence" before you book.  In our experience the best source of info has been from just chatting with other cruisers when we are on cruises :).  The subject has often come up when we share larger tables (for meals) and in basic cocktail conversation.  Most folks do not mind if you ask them how they book their cruises and many are delighted to share info.

We are doing mostly Navigator (on a B2B right now). Unfortunately Hurricane Kay has us just floating off US/Mexico border. Just enough to open shops and casino. And will be back on Navigator in about a month. The 7 day sailings are getting harder to find and mostly going to 3/4 day cruises on Navigator. We are right now doing 5 day cruises and the feel of ship is more party atmosphere. Fine, but just different than 6+ night cruises.

Take care and happy cruising

We hit it off 2 yrs ago with a YC Couple who told us about their 11% off from a TA.  It works but as said above you get what you pay for.  No Frills for that discount.  You call the “at home” working agent with the booking info, it gets booked and takes weeks to get a confirmation number and call them to pay in full -90 days.

So, most of the work is done by the cruiser.  Still a good deal, 11% + 5% (Voyagers Club).

The 11% is off the price, not an OBC.
