The cheap cruisers are mostly gamblers getting free drinks anyway.

Well that would be me but as much as I lost in the Casino I should have just purchased Cheers!  I do know they have had some sailings for really cheap over the last year even to non gamblers.  Prices are normalizing but people are already booked at those cheaper rates.  I saw rates of $25 per night pp plus taxes and fees.  People can not do a land vacation that cheap? I am all for new people trying cruising but with these kind of rates you will get Motel 6 cleintele.  I know Carnival needed to run the sales to fill the ships but bad behavior kinda followed.  I feel bad for the loyal cruisers who have not done rum runners and paid the high prices to do the honest way to have a cocktail on thier balcony.

If this change is truly due to curb down on drunken incidents on the ships, I have a suggestion:

Make the ability to order bottles a perk you are only entitled to if you are Gold or above.

My guess is that the vast majority of "incidents" happen with Blue and Red Cardholders.  If you have had 25 days of cruising under your belt and haven't been disciplined yet, you can probably be trusted with liquor in your room.

I think you will have some people offended by this.  Personally, I am only a Red (21 days)  but I would consider myself a seasoned cruiser.

What's to be offended about?  I wasn't saying all Blue and Red cards are disruptive partiers.  But there is already an established cutoff at Gold Card level that they could easily use.

Also, if your next cruise is 4 days or longer, you will be Gold and be able to buy a bottle under my plan!

Has anyone thought is a means to fix the sale problems?  They have been giving away cruises so cheap that they are getting cheaper clientele?  Thus the problems with fightning and such.  By doing this they might price out these customers who can not afford the drink packages or prices per drink?  Not to say these same customers might not just do Rum runners but carnvial is probably hoping to make it too costly for them to overendulge or make them reconsider sailing?  It is actually alot like the water bottles not being allowed to be brought onboard anymore.  Everyone paying for a few bad eggs.

That's 100 percent it imo! It's significantly more to buy 22 drinks at the bar than it is to buy the bottle and make 22 drinks (1.5 oz pours). That's my frustration with it personally, just be upfront on the "real" reason and while I may disagree with the decision, I can at least respect the honesty.

The YouTube worthy drunken incidents were family fights

Or switch cruise lines, what is this nonesense anyways with a 15 drink limit for a drink package that you paid extra for? Coming from the NCL forum I read some of the cruise reviews (which were very well written by the way) props to Meagan and other reviewers for giving us an inside tour of Carnival. Compared to NCL even without the fist fights happening where is the value with Carnival?

We rarely pre-buy liquor from Carnival. With 30 Carnival cruises this really doesn’t bother us.  But what does bother us is the cutbacks we have experienced over the past 5 years. (Note the cutbacks have gotten worst over the last year). We are Platinum and have less than 15 days to go become Diamond.  But we think the cutbacks will continue at an accelerated pace and continue to diminish the cruising experience.

Therefore we believe it’s time to look at other cruiselines.  We have sailed Disney, NCL and RCL.  Time to add Celebrity, Virgin and MSC to the list!

This is exactly why we will cancel our Carnival cruise. This particular cutback/change rubs me the wrong way; it feels like we are being needlessly punished. If it's to save money, what about the couples where only one person drinks alcohol? Why should we be forced to both buy Cheers if only one will use it? If it's to stop fighting, why are the well-behaved responsible drinkers losing the ability to mix drinks at our leisure?

Everyone vacations differently, some people like a loud party atmosphere, while others like me (and I assume you) enjoy a quieter and more relaxed vibe. Having to deal with crowds going back and forth to the bar disrupts the relaxed way I like to vacation, and like you, I am a responsible adult who doesn't misbehave or get rowdy while drinking.

This is starting to sound more like summer camp and less like a fun vacation. I understand they have to curb the rowdiness somehow, but there must be a better way than punishing the responsible majority and limiting our freedom as grown adults on vacation, just because a few dopes can't behave themselves or drink responsibly.

I'm a grown-up that sails with TWO individuals that don't drink so Cheers! is out of the question for me unless I get free everywhere/in the casino on a Casino Rate, but the thought of paying 3x for a bottle of vodka and then having to mule on my mixers OR paying for a real juice or soda, to go back to my room to make a drink? What a PITA compared to just having a real bartender make my drink (with likely a heavier pour) and then take it with me.

I've even stopped bring bottles of wine on-board because it's more of a PITA than just paying for a glass when I want it.

The last time I had to pay out of pocket for drinks, it was less than what I'd spend on Cheers for me personally AND I got to enjoy things like a pitcher of margaritas I could take back to the cabin to keep for later.

You just seems like you're looking for a reason to cancel, so just cancel.

i agree to disagree but your opinion is as valid as mine.

I know you weren't replying to me, but it seemed like a good post to reply to...

you could add your speculation (or mine) is as valid as any, and more valid than some.

SWAG away!

So says the lady who finds opening a bottle of wine or pouring herself a drink to be too big of a hassle. Give me a break. He/she articulated his/her point very well and backed it up with sound logic and you attack him/her? You also assume everyone wants mixers and foo-foo drinks, some folks take it straight, on the rocks or with a splash of water/soda water, not too difficult. Classic gaslighting.

Since I get drinks everywhere with my casino offer, I do not have a dog in this fight but someone should try to negotiate/suggest a compromise?  JH might listen?  How about just 1 bottle per stateroom?

JH gives away bottles of champagne is that going to stop now because of drunks in the rooms? He should stop that practice if not he is being hypocritical.

You can still order wine and champagne. That hasn't changed.

Confirmed!

Carnival Cruise Line Brand Ambassador John Heald said the cruise line made the decision to cut down on over-consumption onboard.

I read most of his FB posts and he never said "over-consumption", other people said as if he did but he stated "you know why".
