NZ Early disembarkation denied. Any suggestions?

Hi Everyone

We are cruising to NZ out of Sydney in Jan, 7 people, 3 generations. My husband has just found out that has to attend a work conference taking place at the same time as the last days of our cruise. We placed a request for him to disembark at our last port Dunedin, and this request has been denied. The email saysĀ

"Reason for denial is noted in the passenger booking. Common reasons include:

  • Governmental restrictions
  • Operational reasons
  • Requested port does not support disembarkation
  • Request will violate the Passenger Service Act

Other than cancelling our cruise, does anyone have any suggestions. What will happen if he just gets off the ship in Dunedin and does not return?

Has anyone experienced this with a NZ cruise before?

Thanks in advance

Lynette

Work/life balance. It isn't quite in the ScoMo mould of having to cut your holidays short & fly home.Ā

No immigration to process someone departing from the ship in Port Chalmers, so that would fit within the generic answer you have been given.

Hubby goes "on an excursion", and just doesnt re-board. Have your passport.

You stay on board and take the bags home

As if youā€™d do that , theyā€™d get the cops onto you as an illegal immigrantĀ

Might be a bit of fun boarding a flight in NZ back to OZ, when you haven't been processed as a NZ arrival.

Thanks everyone. Princess have confirmed that due to immigration law, no passengers may disembark in NZ or South Pacific on an Australian rounds trip cruise.Ā

I think this might be enough reason for hubby to get out of his conference and be able to stay for the full cruise. Thanks again for all the quick responses!

As a compromise for his employers, he might be able to attend the relevant parts of the conference needing his input via Zoom, Skype or similar from the ship.

I'm sure Princess will have the technology available for a fee or package.

Costly enterprise if doing while at sea.

Over wi-fi, no probs at all.and little expense.

Not all work can be done via zoom, even though our pollies think they can run the country that way.
