On my Harmony cruise over Thanksgiving, my son said that he was told there were about 900 teenagers onboard.  He was good about coming back to the room by 1:00 a.m., or shortly thereafter.  He said that security didn't enforce the rule against the kids who were just quietly minding their own business or peacefully sitting around chatting.  It seemed it was more of a tool that could be used to keep the loudmouths under control.

If Royal really wanted to keep the 'loudmouths' under control they would enforce a 10pm curfew ...

... on the adults! 😁

On Odyssey of Seas over thanks giving there was over 1300 kids... the Teen club closed between midnight and 1am.... I observed older teens in Sorrentos between 1-2am quietly chatting and eating pizza. I also observed teens sitting in chairs on upper deck overlooking pool well after 1am. My experience is...security leaves quiet kids alone...and will not enforce unless complaints or loudness

I've seen kids sitting quietly, enjoying themselves with friends.

But, to be honest, I've also seen kids out late throwing deck chairs into the pool, and I've seen teen toys balancing on the pool hand rails and doing flips into the shallow pool.  (I warned them what they were doing was dangerous, and when they laughed at me, I reported them to security -- no one wants those kids paralyzed from a neck injury, and that's where they were headed.)  And I've had teens knock on my door late at night.

As a parent of teens, I wanted the curfew to be midnight because I was ready to go to bed 🤣

Just 'cause the ship's curfew is 1:00 doesn't mean your family's curfew has to be 1:00.  You're the boss of your own kids.  I didn't let mine stay out late-late when they were teens.

Assuming you have a kid, than it would be your job to teach the kid the rules.  But if you are asking because you have no kids, than really why would you care unless they are mis behaving around you?

In the past, kids that broke curfew were escorted to Security and parents had to pick them up (just to emphasize to parents that it was their responsibility to abide by the rules).

This is by far the exception and not the norm from what I know of personal stories.

Been on a lot of Royal cruises.  I’ve rarely seen teens being a big problem.  Sure there has been a time or two I’ve witnessed typical teen shenanigans.  But on nearly every cruise I’ve been on I’ve seen extremely rude adults including many who do stupid and dangerous things.   This isn’t even getting into the drunk and belligerent behavior.  Adults also make noise in the halls late at night.  They also knock on doors or ring doorbells if suites late at night when drunk.   I’ve seen it.   Anyhow, any teen or kid who misbehaving is 100% on the parents anyhow.

Several years ago or then probably 16 or 17-year-old snuck out of his room after he was back for curfew. He and some friends were hanging out on the stairs talking, and security came, got their room numbers, sent them back home, and we got a letter the next morning telling us what happened and to make sure our kids stay in after 1 AM.

I think it really varies by ship. Other times I know our kids have been out getting pizza at Sorrento‘s and no one ever said anything.

Before anyone slams me for being a bad parent, we all agreed that they would be in by 1 AM, and I only found out about these things after the fact.  I don’t share a room with my teen kids and I don’t check on them multiple times after 1 AM.

I was joking. My kids are not party animals at all and are very compliant with our family rules. They were often in earlier than 1am, just on their own. There were just one or two nights where they were getting pizza with their peers after midnight and I have trouble sleeping if they're not back. I really wanted them to enjoy their independence on the ship, on vacation, because they don't even go out at night at home.

Teens being teens, maybe you SHOULD have shared a room with them!  My kids are well into adulthood but back in the day, I wouldn’t trust my son as far as I could throw him in this regard.  He would not be out causing trouble but he would definitely have snuck out.  We got a bigger room & all stayed in it.  Peace of mind 😉

I just have my teens come to the general area where one of the adult members of our party are (usually the 28 year old “kid”) is out and about still at 1 am.  They hang out until ready to go to bed.   They are with an adult family member, and abiding by curfew.

Our worst experience was last summer on a Baltic cruise - lots of Europeans. The two boys in the cabin next to us had parents down the hall somewhere. They would be loud about 1:15 when they came in from curfew, we'd bang on the wall, they'd be quiet. No big deal.  Until the 5th night, when they deciding running up and down the hall banging on doors yelling 'housekeeping!' in their Spanish accent was just hilarious.  I was getting ready to go out and talk to them when I saw an man walking toward their room. I asked he if was their father, and he said no, was I related to them?  I said no, but that one is their room.  He knocked, hard, and proceeded to yell at them in French for a good 10 minutes.  It was highly amusing.  They were not a problem after that.

After all these cruises I never knew there were curfews.  All I knew were the restrictions for places like the Solarium.   Our kids first cruise was at ages 13, 10 and 7, but now 21, 18 and 15.  How time flies.

I can’t remember a time that kids have caused us any real issue for us other than hogging hot tubs later at night, but that’s within the rules as that’s normally been before 1am.

Put them and their parents off the ship at the next port.

Different opinions.  I think kids need rules for sure, but some independence and a safety net when they inevitably make some poor decisions.   Outside of the couple times we got a 2BR suite we had separate rooms when they were teens/adults, and they have turned out pretty great.   They got into way more trouble at home than on cruises!

No.

Our NYE Harmony trip was filled with underage kids out after 2AM. Made the wait times at Sorrento's unbearable.. LOL! 🙂

Reminds me of our first cruise on the Oasis back in 2015. Same deal. Young children and adults up until extremely late like 2 AM and later.   Same thing, Sorrento’s was swamped and the promenade was loud .  I’m used to Freedom and Voyager class ships where the promenade actually calms down late in the evening, not a madhouse.
