Is the 1am curfew for 17 and under actually enforced? If so how?

If kids are seen out after that time, they are asked to return to their cabin.  If they do not comply, they will be escorted to their cabin and then will likely have a meeting with security the next day.  Kids 17 and under are allowed out after curfew if they are with a parent or guardian or are participating in a ship sponsored, like a teen club event.  If that event ends after 1am, they will not be hassled if they are headed back to their cabin, security knows what is going on.

By parents informing those in their care that there is a curfew and that they expect them to comply with that expectation?

BOOM! right here. Best comment of the day!

But if those parents dont have the discussion with their kids about curfew, security will escort them to their staterooms and have the discussion with said parents and kids.

I think the curfew is too late.  It should be midnight.

those loud teenagers like to run the hallways ya know and really a lot of stuff is winding down.

Please let us know when you get the CEO job at Royal and make this change.

If you have been reading other threads lately around here, CC'ers need time to adjust to any changes. 🙂

They are just trying to have a good time.

yes I am well aware of how loudly folks feel embolden in the name of having a good time.

yup.  I can have a good time stomping and banging around their rooms at 6am when then are trying to sleep in or phone and hang up.  But then I would be lowering myself to their level.

This thread is about 1am curfew and me thinks it is too late especially if ship docks at 7am and folks have excursions thereby needing good rest and time to fight the breakfast crowd too.

One can have fun on a ship but be considerate and quiet.

On Odyssey of Seas over thanks giving there was over 1300 kids... the Teen club closed between midnight and 1am.... I observed older teens in Sorrentos between 1-2am quietly chatting and eating pizza. I also observed teens sitting in chairs on upper deck overlooking pool well after 1am. My experience is...security leaves quiet kids alone...and will not enforce unless complaints or loudness

As a parent of teens, I wanted the curfew to be midnight because I was ready to go to bed 🤣

I know I could have made them come back sooner (and some nights they did, especially if we were getting up early for a port excursion) but RCCL would have made it easier for us old, tired parents if they made it midnight... On the other hand, as long as they were being respectful, it was nice for them to be able to hang out until late in a relatively safe space (no drinking, no driving, no private parties).

In the past, kids that broke curfew were escorted to Security and parents had to pick them up (just to emphasize to parents that it was their responsibility to abide by the rules).

I've only ever had a problem with misbehaving kids out after curfew on one sailing, and it was a problem cruise discussed at great length here. Guest services said those involved would not be permitted to cruise again but who knows if that's actually true. Security can only do as much as parents will assist with, there is no pediatric brig.

I've seen many misbehaving kids in the middle of the day.

Last dozen year's 95% time only been on Longer and Repo Cruises where even over Thanksgiving at most have about 25-30 kids, other dates even less. But in my tucked away Aft/Corner Radiance Class Cabin not a Single Soul Teen or Adult walks by my Cabin

This is one of the biggest advantages of those cabins IMHO.

Are you actually expecting people to take responsibility for their own children?  Stop it!  You're killing me!

On my Harmony cruise over Thanksgiving, my son said that he was told there were about 900 teenagers onboard.  He was good about coming back to the room by 1:00 a.m., or shortly thereafter.  He said that security didn't enforce the rule against the kids who were just quietly minding their own business or peacefully sitting around chatting.  It seemed it was more of a tool that could be used to keep the loudmouths under control.
