It happened a couple of times only so I just put a pillow over my head and went back to sleep. I was on a B2B and the next folks were very quiet. Shar Not sure if it is just a UK "thing", but one of the major UK hotel chains have TVs with a preset maximum sound volume, so as to avoid disturbing guests in adjoining rooms. Perhaps cruise lines should adopt similar technology.
Chefwoody Posted December 20, 2022 #27 Share Posted December 20, 2022 We were on last week too. Mini suite (A215). No noise issues on our end. However on another note, we recently adopted a white noise machine for travel and at home. Our son turned us onto it. Wasn't sure I'd like it - in fact I was sure I wouldn't - but now I'm a fan. But like I said, up where we were it wouldn't have mattered, we were undisturbed. But don't get me going about the smoking in the casino... Grrrrrr.
BettyCruiser Posted December 20, 2022 #28 Share Posted December 20, 2022 Last summer we spent two weeks in a lido deck balcony and had no noise issues.
Mittens101 Posted December 20, 2022 #29 Share Posted December 20, 2022 We had really loud neighbors once. Tv full blast driving us crazy. Almost called the front desk but It was my sister and bil. We didn’t think it would go over too well. But seriously it turned out she has a hearing problem. we did get off of sky the week before thanksgiving and didn’t hear much noise from the cabin next door. There was muffled noise but not much.
NRWPA Posted December 20, 2022 #30 Share Posted December 20, 2022 I just got off Sky on Saturday. My balcony cabin on Dolphin deck (cat BD) was the quietest I've had in a while. There were guests in the cabins on each side of mine.
Ontariotrekker Posted December 20, 2022 #31 Share Posted December 20, 2022 The noisiest cabin I ever had was on the Noordam on the lower promenade. We were doing a Baltic cruise so we sailed into white nights and some folks had trouble sleeping. My bed was under the window and I woke up about 2 am to the sounds of a couple having a rather loud domestic, not realizing I guess the time or the place. My next door neighbour went out and some a chat with them and they moved on. Shar
Rare ghstudio Posted December 20, 2022 #32 Share Posted December 20, 2022 D729 (rear facing) on the Sky Princess was one of the quietest cabins I've had on any cruise ship a couple of weeks ago. On every ship, cabins have different wall, air duct, plumbing and stuctural supports....all of which effect sound....and vibrations. The only solution is moving cabins and hoping the new one is quieter.

You're probably sailing with tons of families with younger kids crammed into tiny cabins which equates to more noise! We were not hearing kids; it was adults speaking at normal tones and TV's at normal volume. At this point, we have confirmed that this was a cabin issue and not typical of all of the cabins onboard (though of course there could be others with the problem).
minabruuke Posted December 20, 2022 Author #34 Share Posted December 20, 2022 We have been moved to a forward cabin on Riviera. The difference is night and day. We had a completely quiet and peaceful night last night. The staff on board were absolutely wonderful in handling the situation! We are very grateful for the assistance!

We will be sailing on the Sky next year and we also have a standard balcony on Baja. This will be a TA and we will be sailing for 27 days, really hope it is not the same room as yours. Could you tell us were you are on Baja, aft, mid, front? We might want to upgrade if we are to have this problem. Mid-aft, port side We're on Riviera now and it is nice and quiet!

We choose to avoid doing this as it can stir stuff up onboard. New cruisers will not know normal vs. not normal; we don't want to get them thinking they have an issue when they don't and then make them unhappy when they were perfectly happy until we pointed something out. We don't want to be the reason a bunch of people flood down to guest services with trivial or minor noise complaints.
Wishing on a star Posted December 20, 2022 #37 Share Posted December 20, 2022 So happy that this worked out!!! Enjoy your cruise! When you get a moment, and maybe after your cruise, please do post the cabin number. And, post a cabin review in that permanent 'sticky' topic at the top of the board here. 2
Rare Cruise Raider Posted December 20, 2022 #38 Share Posted December 20, 2022 We were on the Ruby Princess last year and picked what we thought would be a decent cabin. OMG, were we ever wrong. We begged to be moved after two sleepless nights. I was willing to be downgraded into an inside cabin just to get some sleep. Well, they found a stateroom (the cruise was at high capacity) in our same category .. it was just missing a mini fridge but we didn’t care. it was obviously being refurbished for some reason as it also had brand new carpet. We didn’t care what happened in that room in the past but we suspect it was something. Like the OP, day and night in terms of noise level between the old and new cabin. We slept so great after that. It is a relief that not all of the cabins are noisy. Hopefully, your old cabin will be investigated..... or not.

If the lifeboats are all being used, any noise is the least of of your worries !
