That could be said about any ethnic foods served in the U.S., I bet.  I believe I did mention that about Italian and Chinese. There are several dishes served in the U.S. that you wouldn't find in the country that it supposedly came from.  We in the U.S. Americanize just about everything.  But, other countries do what they do to many American foods, too.  Go to McDonalds in Germany there are some subtle differences and some not so subtle.

It's all good though.  I support national originality.

Yes. McDonalds adjusts food to cater to local people tastes.

McDonalds though invented successful model, but food in MD is not something completely new.

McDonalds was just one example.  In a little town just outside of the Army Post I was stationed at, in Germany (Vilseck), there was a, so called, Mexican Restaurant that was owned and operated by Germans, not Mexican-Germans, just Germans.  Their menu included "Corn Niblets" as a side dish.  That's about it, the rest of the menu was basically a German menu. I think they though that they could sucker in GIs with the use of the word Mexican.   When I was there, at least that region (Bavaria/Bayern) that I lived in, and the time frame I was there, Germans thought that corn was cow food, "not fit for human consumption", that's exactly what my landlord said.  So, they though that if they would add corn to the menu and call it Mexican.  I think the restaurant was open for about 3 or 4 months.  None of it was any good, including the actual German food.  The gasthaus down the street with its own brewery won out, big time.  Their bier was great.

Hahaha. I see many things like that here. Russian salad, borscht etc.

I did not even know that corn was not for people's consumption in Germany. Almost like buckwheat here in US. A great product.

P.S. Our son was stationed in Vilseck in 2011-2013. He was supposed to be in Grafenwöhr, but due to last minute change was sent to Vilseck. 🙂

I wonder if people feel the same way about Italian vs Americanized pizza?

Most of pizza types in US do not exist in Italy even though pizza came from Italy.

Pizza did not really come from Italy,  it uses Italian ingredients, mostly, but was developed in the US by Italian immigrants.  Yes, you can get it in Italy now though it is very different (peas?!!).

It was here in the US until Kellogg's came along.  That was the general consensus, corn was for pigs and cattle.  It fattens them up...kinda like us.😉

BTW, my favorite two Mexican Restaurants in the world are Mi Tierra's and Las Margarita's, both in San Antonio, market place and both owned by the same family.

If you're ever on 281 heading north, make it to Sandra's Mexican Cantina in Spring Branch on the East side of the highway past the river...best on the planet! Order the Fajitas Albanil or just anything, it's all good.  Not to be confused with the one in town on Potranco Rd.

Thanks, I do go north from San Antonio on 281 to get to Marble Falls to visit with an old Army buddy and to get to Ft. Hood (PX and Commissary).  I'll be looking for it.

We will be in Seguin on the 10th of February.  We volunteer at the San Antonio Rodeo (Stock Show).  Working on being lifetime members of the association (for what that's worth being 71 now).  But, it is fun.  I'd love to live in the Seguin area close to our very close friends.  But, the property taxes in TX are just toooooooo high.  That may explain why there is no Income Tax in TX.  Here in AL, I don't pay any property tax or state income tax.  Basically, I'm tax free.  With all my deductions and classifications, I'm virtually federally tax free too.

Can't wait.  Thanks to Google Earth!

Also, If you're in Cozumel, Nachi Cocom has some of the best Fish Tacos ever fresh out of the water!

Deep fried, I hope!  I just can't eat fish that isn't battered and deep fried.  Don't ask why, I don't know why. :classic_rolleyes:

71,you are a youngster.I am in my ninth decade of life

Okay, grandpa.  You're good.

Seriously, congratulations.  It would/will be nice to reach that milestone.

I wish you many many many more years of active life ahead.

I just had my annual physical about a week or two ago.  For the first time in my life I was told that there were some irregularities in my EKG and blood labs.  So, I'm getting referrals from all different kinds of specialists.  I have noticed in the last two or three months that my walking speed has slowed down from an average of 48 minutes for the 3.5 mile walk to about 52 minutes.  Getting old isn't for the young, that's for sure.
